Default ECU Remap or chip?

Hey guys, just wondering what would be the better option, getting a diesel workshop to do a remap on the ECU, or just a plug and go "chip" thing, like for example:

Damo you should have several options available for the TDCI, Bluefin, Chipped UK ST3 etc..... I had the Chipped UK ST3 tune on my Golf GTD and it was under a grand delivered to the door. Simple plug and play and follow the instructions (very easy) and completely reversible by you if the need should arise for warranty work (if you still have warranty that is) Big gains as well and not only for more power and torque but even better fuel economy The hand held units that you can DIY I consider to be the best value and you can take it with you when you upgrade your car as well

I had mine to put on the Focus but unfortunately the Zetec petrol was not on their list so I sold it to someone on a VW forum :(

With these chips, would they increase power/torque even more with modifications, example intercooler and exhaust?

I'm not exactly sure how the chips work, other than assuming that they are obviously pre - programmed to work with the ECU / PCM. I think both the chip and the hand held tuning units would only be based on a stock exhaust and airbox setup, custom dyno tuning would be a better option if you have modifications as the tuner can then allow for these things and get the maximum results for you
