Just wondering if anyone has had this problem with their AU.
Air con is nice and cool when working, but after about 10 minutes of operation it cuts out. You can physically see when it is not working that the air con clutch is disengaged and not turning the compressor. Pressing the air con button on and off does nothing. However if you turn the engine off and back on again the air con will work for another 10 or so minutes before it cuts out again. Its a real PITA now that the warmer months are approaching. Before I send to a auto-elec/air-con specialist does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? TIA. |

The aircon system has a fail safe pressure switch the stops the compressor from engaging when the gas pressure is to low. This stops the compressor getting damaged if there is a gas leak. I'd get an aircon shop to check the gas pressures. And if needed get an aircon service done.

Yep Id say its most likely low on gas. Or the Hi/Lo pressure switch is faulty.

Thanks for bringing this up. My car has the same issue. It'll be fine for a while then all of a sudden it'll start blowing not-cooled air. Then a few mins later it'll come back on blowing cool air again. Pressing the aircon button does nothing. Turning the car on and off again sees it coming on cold again. But not for long.

Looks like this was the problem. Just bringing this thread alive agian to let others know what I did... or more like what the air con workshop did. New oriface tube, lube in compressor and a regas as this was recommended by the workshop and $265 later all is well again. |

I had my AUII XR8 done today aswell, as the air con was not like it used to be, turned out to be a blocked oriface aswell, he showed me the original one and yes it was well and truely blocked.
So a new oriface valve and regas and check over the complete system for leak's cost $154. |

Not necessarily, The bloke who did mine did say that because of the carbon tax, it had gone up either 30% or 300% I don't remember but for this month only he was able to still do it at pre carbon tax price.
Depend's on where you live aswell, some places in the city's would charge more cause the can. Plus I am sure there are some places in my town that would have been more expensive aswell knowing their background. |
