Car Alarms went off, attempted break in and Police not talking?

Weirdest thing happened, I had gone off to visit my grandparents 30min away and my sister stayed home with my mothers FG XR6 and mine, hers in the driveway and mine in the garage. I got home and my sister freaking out told me someone tried breaking in, car alarms went off (couldn't have been ours as the FG doesn't have an alarm).

So a group of people had tried breaking into some cars and then attempted our house for some reason. She tells me they appeared drunk. Then an hour later the police rock up to our house, get out try to open the car and leave. I had came out to see what they wanted and they just left. Why would they check the car door and leave without saying anything?

I am keeping a very close eye on any noises tonight, is it worth ringing the station and asking whats up? Wish they would at least inform us as it was our house they tried getting in, granted we didn't call them but surely they don't just rock up and attempt to open a car without informing the owner what is going on. I am shocked!

Definately worth a call just to see what is going on although if you can be bothered I'd even visit the station as a face to face chat is harder to fob off then a telephone call.

We gave them a call, as I expected my sister was a bit off from what actually happened, although the banging and attempted opening of the house door true, it wasn't a break in! It was angry nearby people.

A black XR6 with p plates had been reported for doing burnouts and almost hitting pedestrians. We believe the people banging on the door saw the black XR6 (mothers XR6 but without P plates?) and thought we are going to have a chat (teach a lesson, whatever) with these people who almost took our family member out. The police had came to inspect and left as soon as I came out?

My mother had rang and confirmed the story, police believed no one was home as informed, despite having me come out. When my mother said that is her car and she would have appreciated they had spoken with me "so your son had been driving it?" =O Wow! Anyway, they apologised and said "what do you want us to do about it?". End of story. I can sort of sleep better although those idiots pointing the finger may do some damage to the car. Sad thing is we live in an incredibly good place. Stupid hoons.

Maybe you should front up to the people who think it was you, and politely point out that it was your mothers car, and that you also do not condone burnouts in public places like that. If approached correctly, they should hopefully see it as the simple mistake that it is, and you can rest easy.

Doesn't sound too good man. I hope your sister isn't too shaken up!

Some people ruin it for the rest of us. I live near a popular 'burnout pad' and constantly have to listen to people destroy a public park/area let alone potentially injure someone in what is also considered a really nice area...

Ah, ok. I thought they may have turned out to be neighbours which you may have known. In that case, i'd maybe call the police once more and ask them if they made a point of clearing your name and letting them know it was definitely not your mothers car which was involved. Tell them it would ease your mind, and go a long way to ease any tensions within the neighbourhood from flaring up since they have already been to your house.

Is it possible, the police first felt the bonnet, before you saw them at the car door?

Generally the first thing a copper will do, when this sort of thing happens is, feel the bonnet for warmth or even by standing near the engine bay area,(ie at the door) the radiating heat is enough to give it away....If it's stone motherless cold, they won't bother talking to you, as they might have a lead on a few cars fitting the description you describe, so they need to check them out for the warm bonnet.

You're absolutely right, I missed the part of him actually checking the car as I ran downstairs to greet him but he started to leave. I just filled in the most logical blanks but your right, that makes the most sense!
