That's the problem. We only have two choices labor or liberal. What happens when they both suck.
Plus we are not a democracy. We are an elected dictatorship -big difference |

Do people really believe that crime is as bad as the mass media portray on their daily "news" programs?

Interestingly, in the car jacking case from yesterday, Police have said they are stepping up their efforts to catch the perpertrators. I would expect any person giving less the 100% in their job.........

An overt dictatorship is preferable to the one we have now that we are told is a democracy.

The point being, ordinary people are being dragged into the punch ups, shootings and drug deals gone bad. Walking down the street there is an increased possibility of being assaulted. Drugs within schools, the list goes on and on. IMO, this situation has been allowed to get to this point because of a gradual easing in police powers, which occurred in virtually every state in Australia (coincidently while long term Labor governments were in power). The media is also complicit as they portray every copper as another Terry Lewis and make outrageous claims with little evidence and no consequence. When caught, the thugs get themselves lawyered up and the magistrates (mostly appointed by the same government) give the coppers grief and Mr Joe public gets a shellacking. At least now in QLD the rules have changed. The left leaning media is hyperventilating, the left leaning magistrates are up in arms and the left leaning opposition is playing politics. I'm not surprised that so many people are gullible and fall for the same media and leftie lies, but what surprises me is that people think the "old" system was somehow protecting them. |

Ordinary people have been dragged into such situations since time immemorial. It is human nature that those that want to better themselves (financially more often than not) at any cost will do so with collateral damage. The probablility of being assaulted hasn't really changed, there is and always has been, a very small chance one might be assaulted in their day to day life despite the constant bleating of the govco mouthpiece, the media to the contrary. In their quest for sensationalism, they will make out like you will be killed on the streets at night.
I don't know what news you're watching cheap, but the mainstream media in Australia loves the cops and govco; everything they do is right and for the greater good. When these entities are in cahoots with each other, it is time to be very concerned for the state of the country. What has caused the greatest problems is the dual pronged quest of political correctness with the ever increasing growth of government interference in people's lives. Political correctness has done far more damage to the fabrc of Australia than any other concept. Everyone is now so afraid of "discriminating" against someone or some ideal, that anything of actual worth just does not get done at any level of government or community. At the same time, you have govco forever bleating that crime is out of control and they need to legislate to the nth degree to combat this "threat". Not only that, they have dug themselves into such a massive financial hole, they see no way out of the mess they created other than to fine the crap out of the softest targets, knowing full well they will bend over and take it in the date. "Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem" - Ronald Reagan |

Perhaps the root cause of these anti democratic laws is the fact that QLD abandoned its senate. There are no checks and balance's in QLD. Our forefathers wrote the second layer of scrutiny into law back in 1901. If you look at history you will see that at any time any flavor of government had control of both houses you get really bad and ideologically driven laws. In QLD any old law that the idiots think up is voted into law because they all vote along party lines. ie what Newman wants, Newman gets. I think that sooner than later he will get something that he definitely does not want. But thats another story. In short what you have in QLD is basically a dictatorship. There has been one since 1921.
I think that is why QLD is such a strange place. Also one where political polarization is so entrenched.

Criminals are being held to account but Qld is a dictatorship for this? Enough of the smug, self important pontificating. Those who sit in the safety of this free society and are still moaning about dictatorship have absolutely no idea about what repression truly is!

Sorry Muffin , but if anyone here is smug, self important pontificating: its you. Is this your only pea brained reaction to a bit of a history lesson? No wonder QLD is in the mess it is in now.

It really is a strange place, especially once you get outside of Brissy and into the rural backwaters. It seems like all the wacko or extremist politicians always come from Queensland - Clive Palmer, Bob Katter, Pauline Hanson, K Rudd, Sir Joh, I'm sure there are more.

Now do we queenslanders that move down south rant and rave like they do. It's mainly the southern trash moving up here that were the cause of much of our problems. A mate of mine in hervey bay who works in the pub said he is convinced that many of the southern crimiminals are up hiding there or have been forced to move their by the Law, as in a judge kicking them out of their state. and this mate of mine originally came from VIC when he was just a kid so he is not prejudice at all. People rant on about Sir Joh being a dictator have no idea, Joh nipped the rot in the bud before it grew out of control but he had the drugos and good for nothing layabout no hopers always try to attack him full on day in day out. I don't like our LNP QLD Premier he is nothing like Sir Joh at all. but i hope he deals with the criminal low lifes and sends them back over the border where they seem to be cherished by their own. We don't want people like that here. Last edited by castellan; 26-01-2014 at 06:11 PM. |

Bit worried now its hard to find someone up here who admits voting LNP.
If he gets in again he will believe he has a mandate to privatise education and hospitals power and water make everything user pays. Probably make the Bruce highway a Toll road Joh was nothing like him |

Wow. The very fact that any of us can even have an opinion whether it be in favour or against a government on the internet and not be jailed and/or shot is every proof it is nothing like a dictatorship.
My grandmother would turn in her grave even hearing such nonsense considering she was actually shot at by the Nazis AND the Russians. |

So you'd have no problem being forced to pay stand over men protection money or your business and yourself gets trashed ?? Since the new rules have come in these things have stopped.. I know a few people who are releaved, the media only knows half of what goes on.

Yes that's right i came from the big smoke of Brisbane then at the age of 9 i went to what southen lot would call an Aboriginal school, so me did not get the best education i know that but you know what i think ones whole life is a learning experience not just of the school days you know as i think that was more of just a brainwashing thing i would think hey.
And i know how it is that some people like to play the highbrow by living a so called educated detached version of reality that only impresses themselves and only just pretentious snobs but i do understand why they do as such as it's a human weakness they have to get a grip of. |

It was the ALP in QLD who wanted toll roads everywhere and that idiot Beatie spent bugger all on infrastructure in all his days as the fool thought everyone was going to catch the train and the media backed him up full on with his full on load of rubbish and he drove QLD into the drain and then poor old what's her name blight in the ALP had to fork out money willy nilly to try to fix it as even the village idiot knew something had to be done. Then we are left with this mess to try to fix. true story ! i could see it all coming. Fact is Old Joh was against tolls and all this fascist commy inspired trash even the 0.05 pulling up people for no reason and the list goes on. it was the ALP who brought all the dictatorial hog wash in. and every year it gets more dictatorial regardless of who is in. |
