Supposing you have a B series, that some bright spark has decided to make into a replica GT, by transplanting all the FPV bits (from a dead GT) including the more powerful motor, tranny, brembos, full interior, etc, etc.
HOW do you insure it? In PRACTICAL terms, its a GT, as in the repair costs would be for a GT, the risks of theft and damage would be the same. BUT it's not actually a GT. Should it just be insured as a "GT" at the agreed value of what you paid for it? Or should it be insured as the original and list every GT component fitted as an extra? Would your average insurer even touch such a car? Obviously if you buy such a car for say $20k, insure it for $40k (because its a "GT") and next week it gets torched, you could be looking at charges of insurance fraud. NB: I wouldn't be buying this as a GT. I would be looking at it as an XR8 with extras. (But if passers by want to think I have a GT...) |

You could probably just insure as a XR8 with an agreed value if you wanted to. You would pay accordingly. I would not be telling an insurance company it is a GT otherwise they will burn you in a claim as you suggested.

It is what it is, a modified Bseries falcon, insure it accordingly and you won't have any issues, start calling it a GT and you could be in for a world of pain come claim time

Insure it as exactly what it is, an XR8 with GT parts and you won't ever have any problems should a claim be made.

Put it this way, would you insure a commodore as a chev, because it has a chev badge?
Same rules apply. Insure it as what it was prong ally. End of the day it is not a GT. |

Several years ago I remember some clown upping the spec of his Ferrari and was exposed somehow, I think by a claim or him filing for bankruptcy and getting it re-possessed.
It's whatever the VIN says + modifications come insurance time.

I think you have a base vehicle + a whole bunch of accessories.
The best option would be to have all the receipts and agree upon an agreed value - also ensure you and the insurance company are clear and on the same page as to what agreed value and amount means. A broker who specialises in custom vehicles would be required too. |

An XT Falcon taxi doesn't become an XR6 because XR6 wheels were added?
It isnt a GT, no matter how many bits are added. It should be insured for what it is. Bits don't make a GT. The VIN does ....... and you cant change that. Insure it with 'Mods' is highly recommended.

Interesting existential question. Let's hypothetically say that you have two cars; your GT and your dad's pov pack lpg Falcon. You strip each car completely bare, till you have nothing but the carcasses, strip them to bare metal and repaint, but get confused and put all the GT gear on the pov pack carcass, and vise versa.
Which car do you give back to your dad? Which car is the GT? Your dad's car with the 6 and lpg? Interesting, but irrelevant, as nobody is actually claiming this car is a GT. It is what it is, just happens to look (and drive) like a GT. |

But that is an absolute no brainer and cannot be disputed.
The GT will be the one with the GT codes stamped on the body. A mangled and destroyed GT with a 6 cylinder ..... but still a GT nonetheless.

Shannons - list the extras, they'll typically nip up the insured value.
The bits will be written into your copy of the policy, then get salvage rights. Worth a phone call. With our XJS, it's becoming mostly Aston DB7 (which were based on XJS floor pan, chassis anyway) and even though it's in bits, Shannons have done exactly the above.

UM ..... compared to Euros and other cars, and considering the BA GT is now 10 years old plus, they haven't done too bad at all in the scheme of things.
But, they are still cheap motoring for what you get.

Was looking at GT bits for the XR8, but got the real-deal instead, haven't looked back.
There's something about a car that was assembled at Skunk Works, hand built exotic. Good luck, whichever way you go, eh.

So basically it is a rebodied GT. Useless these days with data dots and stickers for id plates. Burn the shell and sell the GT parts.
