Default Side mirror glass replacement Sydney?

'Morning.

Have a work friend who has smashed their side mirror for their 07 Mazda 3. Passenger side. Rest of the unit is intact, just broken glass.

Seems all the cheaper Ebay options are from the UK or the 'States.

Anyone know of another option a bit more local?

Tried Pick & Payless? They had a few there, although I know a black one is already gone (mate's daughter's car needed a whole LH mirror).

Failing that, try a local glazier - my neighbour had them cut a new glass for a commodore mirror, and they glued it over the top of the existing cracked mirror.
Was enough to get a pink slip passed, and didn't look too bad.

Car mirrors are a little curved, therefore cutting a flat mirror to shape still doesn't give the same rear view.
I would have tried to get an entire mirror assembly of Ebay or Gumtree.
For a common car model, 9 years old, I would think you find that mirror complete for $ 50 - 100 on the two mentioned places.
I would look for an Australian seller, as shipment from UK and US has become quite expensive. Cheers,

If you go to Bunnings you can buy a pack of 3 thin persex mirrors about 30cm sq which you could cut to size and glue over the existing glass. These work well if you want to cover those annoying curved lenses which give a false indication of how close you are to things behind.

Not all are curved. Many cars only have the LH one curved.
In the example of the neighbour's commodore, it was a flat glass in the driver's mirror (which were still flat into VE - not sure about the VF).

Only cars I've seen in Oz in decent numbers with a curved RH mirror as well as the LH are the euro crap where they cut costs by having 1 spec for all markets - like the bonnet release left in the passenger side, and the radio that cuts off when you open the LH front door, not the RH (2010 Mondeo).

Just go to a wrecker and get another one.

A few phone calls first to save you driving around, pretty sure there a plenty of Mazda wreckers in Sydney.

Do people need everything spoon fed these days??

Not sure why you would bother getting one custom cut when you can buy an OEM mirror on just about every second street corner.

Well GS you will probably find that Mazda don't sell mirror lenses separately and a complete mirror could easily cost $300 genuine. Most aftermarket mirrors are crap. There is probably a fair demand for SH mirrors and they probably cost $100. $100 may be chicken feed to you but to many people it's dollars that would be spent on household essentials.$9 at Bunnings is a cheap easy fix

Up to you, I would rather have a quality mirror glass than some perspex mirror, especially driving in Sydney.

If you can't afford a proper replacement essential safety item for your car may be you can't afford a car.

I bet I will find you a genuine mirror with 5 phone calls or less in Sydney for well under $100, Pick and Payless have fixed prices, probably $15-40 for a mirror glass at a guess.

It's a Mazda 3 there is heaps of them around, you are not looking for a rare one of car where parts would have to be hand made as you just can't buy them.

A 5 second ebay search found about 5 mirrors for under $50, genuine, brand new ones $90, like I said people need to be spoon fed these days, took me 5 second to find.

Here we go spoon feeding , under $50 delivered brand new from Mazda dealer:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Genui...wAAOSwSHZWeJNj

After marked replacement under $30 from Sydney:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Driver-si...3D201513445018

Now does the fella looking for one need me to deliver it to his front door and fit it for him as well....seriously

Having a bad day are we?

I suggest ringing around and talking to some of your local wreckers, not familiar with Sydney as I'm in Perth but I reckon that is your best bet.

Plenty of wreckers around Bankstown. Beresford Ave, etc.

When I need anything I just ring around. If you ask, they may have a mirror around that has a damaged case, but the glass is intact, and you may get it a few dollars cheaper.

You could always polish up that rather large spoon and use it as the replacement? :

(Just kidding Yellow Festiva, but I know you'll see the funny side).

He has a point though right?

And as much as he 'slammed', He gave good advice and even links to cheap genuine mirrors. He could have just said nothing and left you with the quality advice of cutting perspex.

I suggested the perspex mirror because it would be a cheap easy do it youself fix and with the added bonus of getting rid of those stupid curved mirrors that give the impression the car behind is way behind when in actual fact it is about almost touching you rear bumper. When glued in place you wouldn't pick it from real glass.

I can't answer this, but I advise you hold your breath when mowing over white dog crap, the white cloud it produces is unpleasant to breathe in.

Rubbish. He was rude and condescending.

He should have said nothing. There is that rule about if you have nothing nice to say... well you know the rest.

He should have spoon fed his trailer bearings some much needed grease perhaps?
