Motor Mag is due to release their next issue this week, and in it is supposed to be the most comprehensive comparison for a long time between the SSV, Sprints, and Stang.
What are everyone's thoughts on how the Xr6 will go against the SSV? Everyone has praised the Sprints, but Motor Mag is particularly fond with the Redline. I just hope they take into account the type of people who buy these cars, and consider the fact that the Xr6 for 2k less, has 65odd more KWs than both the Redline and Stang. Should be interesting. Personally I'd be slightly inclined to the XR6 Sprint, but I'd take a VE Series-II SSV over both of them. I honestly reckon the VE S's are the single best looking modern commodore or falcon range out. One of those with a Walkinshaw Performance pack is 10/10 car goals

The Falcon's seating position will be too high.

Il the circuit is no tighter than the 2.1km Baskerville circuit it Was tested on by Motoring.com in the last recent ABDC test, the XR6 Sprint should lap Quicker!
Likewise if the drag strip is much grippier than Heathcoate Was, again the XR6 Sprint will show its true potential and SHINE, Against the SSV Redline, even though it Was put together for much less money, and also Being a generation Older! Its got to be the Best Bang For Buck! Let's hope the journalists give a fair comparison this time! |

Only thing certain no matter the result someone here will find fault with the test.
Wrong track, wrong temperature, pressure too high, pressure too low, driver too fat, too skinny, tyres were 100km too worn, the planets weren't aligned, etc. etc.

The Sprint will smoke it in all of the performance tests.
Redline could win overall as the more "complete" package. It will end with "in the end it doesn't matter which one you choose as both are the best of the last" or similar. Curious if they can get a 4.5 0-100 and a 12.6 1/4 mile or better.

Reminds me of one of the last Pokemon games (remake of Ruby/Sapphire). IGN said a bad point was "to much water"
It's like they have to struggle to find a bad thing to point out on a game that's been made before. |

I think it's pretty obvious that the outcome will be: SSV is the better all round car, XR6 Sprint the better performance/grunt.

Falcons have superior engines, then the rest goes to the commodore....

Something about the VF Commodore doesn't feel right for me. The interior just seems awfully fake, and the car itself lacks character. I agree it's a great car, but it just feels slightly off...
The HSV variants however are amazing.

My ex boss just bought himself a VF2 SSVR sedan. Nice bit of kit, jeez, that LS3 sounds pretty trick too, I wouldn't bother changing the exhaust.
I actually found the ergonomics pretty good, not too dissimilar to the focus, though the seats were a little, wide. He traded in his BA2 XR6T Ute (heavily modded) as he has now two kids, so needs room for both babies (and the Mrs orders). even as a Ford man, I'd be hard pressed to turn down a SSVR Sportswagon.

I bought a new XR8 Manual in December 15. A mate followed up and bought a new SSV Redline manual. We set off for a comparison run. Without any bias.. the Commodore is much easier and nicer to drive.. it handles better, is more comfortable and just more pleasant. The XR8 is more of a ''Muscle car'' it is faster and harsher.. stiff suspension and requiring more effort to drive quickly.
I guess that the XR8 being Standard or Sprint is really a muscle car. The SSV Redline is more akin to the Performance car tag |

I don't understand why the mags are bothering! All the Sprints are now sold, An 18 month waiting list for any Mustang that's worth buying with the probability of a price rise between now and then,
The outcome is already a foregone conclusion with the Holden being the only car available for purchase, everybody knows these facts and also know that the editors cannot tell the whole truth about the Holden if they want a job next month. The mag is made to sooth the ego's of the poor distraught Holden owners who keep getting shown a clean set of tail lights.

Yeh, I race every day on my way to work. 99% of drivers use their cars for A-B. And I can tell you , unfortunately the commodore is the better car for that....

I have VF SV6 rentals when out of town. They drive nice, engine is a POS, rattly and you have to wring its neck to get it to do anything but surprisingly good economy even when driving hard. I prefer my Falcon seating position and the last couple of rentals I had I found the seat became uncomfortable after a few days even making adjustments.
I think a Coyote powered Sports Wagon would be a good practical vehicle especially as now Falcon is dead.

The xr8 is a complete handful to drive around - that's what gives it its charm, it's just an unruly animal.
I don't consider it a nice car to drive, it's a lot of fun though.

In this photo Fords got the bases cover if nothing else.
Turbo sedan, V8 sedan & V8 coupe compared to Holden’s single V8 sedan. Its ashamed Motor didn’t go all out and throw the performance Utes into the review mix as well for a last hurrah. |

That's what I found with the seat. I had one for 4 days and I was glad to get back in my GT for seat comfort. Yes it's an *** if someone moves your seat in the Falcon but I find it better than feeling like your driving sitting in a bucket.
The interior I find is not that user friendly but the keyless start and some other features would of being nice in the coon. Overall they ride and handle good but they feel like they have no soul. I might take a GTS for a test drive and see if they are any better.

I can’t say I’ve ever found a modern Commodore’s seating arrangement uncomfortable with its easily adjustable lumber support and other positions.
Then again I also can’t say I’ve had a problem with my limited experience in newer Falcons. Apart from that, a rental with a rattle, how in hell did that ever slip pass the rental company's quality check before the customer was handed the keys? |
