Surprised they didn't buy a diesel. I see so many people rushing off to buy small TDs .. only drive 5000km/year .. significant purchase price difference + the financial beating you seem to get owning a diesel. They might be efficient, but diesels not cheap, and maintenance on them isn't cheap either .. but then most probably don't service them by time, only distance ..

Just to muddy the water my mechanic said maybe I should think about a smaller car like a Focus or Camry. The main reason I was thinking Falcon was the larger engine and the life you can get out of them. But a cheaper, late model Focus should be getting around 5-6 l/100km on the freeway which would end up being similar sort of dollars on fuel as the ecolpi.

It gets more interesting when the dpf clogs up due to the low kms. The new coty will cost 5k to get fixed from the stealer.

Choices... I hate them.
Purely on a comfort level, I'd chose the EcoLPi every time. You can do an 8 hour stint to Melbourne, stopping only for fuel, food & toilet, and get out like you've only gone 10 minutes to the shops.

Can't do that in a Focus - the 1 hour commute in the service loan car had me begging to get out of the car...and don't start me on the Fiesta....

The camry hybrid has been the vehicle of choice for our reps. I had the "joy" of driving one in Vic when the rep took ill & we were out near Stawell. I could not get a comfortable position with that crappy seat height/reach arrangement they have. Try one out before you consider it.

Anything focus sized will get real old real quick on the highway. Yes they are a lot better than they used to be and you can drive them all day ok, but I think they're still a bit buzzy, torqueless, noisier etc. In the Falcon you kinda just waft along.

"LPG will be available for years"

LPG will be available for the next 3-4 years and will phase out and be gone within 7- 10 years. That said our only servo in town is removing gas this month.
I would avoid gas cars...

This one is in Melbourne. Far away but they are out there. Have a look at Pickles site. 120,175 Km at low $13K plus some extra costs. Pickles cars go to auction if not sold via fixed price.

Probably going to pull the trigger on a car today or tomorrow. Is there any register similar to REVS that shows if a car has been in an accident? There is flood/ storm/ write off from REVS but is there anything for other accidents where the car was repaired?

not saying you wrong, but who told you it will be gone in 7-10 years time?

I take it your in a country town, since you only have one Servo. they are probably removing the Gas tanks as hey need upkeep & testing. and its just not economically viable for them anymore, being in a small town.

This may eventuate in the big smoke too, given there are no new cars on gas, and conversion costs are just not worth it. shame really.

but it will be longer than 10 years methinks

eventually I stopped loading my spare in the boot of my LPG Territory.

Mechanics make more money changing timing belts and servicing little engines.

The falcon is an 'oil and filter' only kind of car.
