As if the Ford Ranger ute wasn’t popular enough already, Ford has introduced a new incentive to get customers over the line. People who buy a Ranger will soon be able to register for “Ford 2nd Car”, a program that will give them the keys to a Mustang for up to two weeks during the first two years of ownership. The pilot program also applies to Escape customers at participating dealers. Details surrounding the scheme are slim, but Ford promises it will be affordable. The Blue Oval will extend Ford 2nd Car to other models in the range later this year. A pitch on the company website says “whether it’s a Mustang for a trip to the beach, an Everest for a camping adventure, a Transit to move house, or simply an extra vehicle for friends or family, 2nd Car is another way Ford is exploring new mobility solutions”. The brand also announced a new way for potential customers to test drive its sports car range on Tuesday. The “Ultimate Mustang Road Trip” allows drivers to take the wheel of a new Mustang for up to two hours in NSW, Queensland or Victoria.

Interesting.
One would expect these '2nd cars' to be registered demo's and inflate their Vfacts numbers in the short term... |

Ford are evil registering extra demo’s or discounting excess stock, Holden would never do that with Astra or Colorado |

Ford appear to already be offering that in the UK - you can rent cars from certain participating dealers.

Im aiming that at all the whingers pointing the finger at Holden for their tactics in December with Astra and Colorado. Holden do it, its fudging the numbers, Ford do it, marketing genius. Im just calling them out before the first figures are released...lol |

Registering demos only goal is to boost sales numbers. Every brand does it though, some worse than others. |

Im just pointing out that the side effect will be to artificially boost the vfacts numbers before people start raving on about how well they are selling. What i find interesting if im reading this correct is that they are offering a second car from the segments which are on the slide, if i buy a Mustang they wont throw me the keys of a Wildtrak, but if i buy a Wildtrak they will give me the keys of a Mustang, conveniently boosting reported sales figures of vehicles which are starting to decline. why not just sell them a fiesta/focus for cost if they buy a ranger
ford don't loose out, they will sell more cars and take the market back and probably have ranger the no.1 seller for the year and boost the numbers of the small cars each focus sold this way is a corolla/mazda 3 not sold which are the market leaders anyway just my 2c

Why would you want to sell cars at no profit?
And probably burn the resale values on them too. |

no car company cares about resale, if they did they might just have customer service....

It's just a small step from here to subscription car buying, you pay ford $x/week for a ranger work vehicle, go on holidays to the ocean rd, take a mustang for 2 weeks, staying in the city, take a fiesta, family holiday to the snow, take an Everest.

They are also looking at selling the F350 here.
Instead of a spare tyre you get a spare Fiesta in the rear tray.

Here are some more details on the 2-hour test drives in a Mustang during the Australia Day weekend.
https://www.motoring.com.au/ford-to-...ehicle-110595/ “Anyone aged 25 or over carrying a full, unrestricted driver’s licence is able to reserve a car and bring up to three passengers along for the ride, with spots being awarded on a first-come, first-served basis,” Ford says. “With over 380 test drives available, you can cruise around three iconic destinations: Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Queensland’s south-east coast and New South Wales’ Northern Beaches.” The move is unprecedented for Ford, which has won a legion of fans courtesy of first global Mustang, along with the Ranger ute — Australia’s top-selling 4×4 ute. The ‘Ultimate Mustang Road Trip pop-ups’ can be found at the following locations: – New South Wales: St Ives Showground, 450 Mona Vale Rd, St Ives – Victoria: Mount Eliza Secondary College, 204 Canadian Bay Rd, Mount Eliza – Queensland: Victory Ford, 10-20 Minjungbal Dr, Tweed Heads South (just south of the Queensland border.”

And they do care about resale to a degree. They try to avoid doing things to put resale in the gutter as it just burns the customer who buys a new car every couple of years. They won't go back if they get bugger all for their car when it's trade in time. |

Lets consider GM are terrible at everything and turn our focus to a succesful model to compare Ford to, Toyota.. Toyota are after profits, Toyota sell big numbers too. Toyota aren't bankrupt. Toyota care about resale and they sell lots of Corolla's to repeat customers with high tradein prices. Toyota haven't burnt their customers. (Insert cardigan and whitegoods gag for deflection) Next... Last edited by BENT_8; 22-01-2018 at 03:07 PM. |

Just using GM as an example. But Hyundai, Nissan and others do it too. Ford have moved away from high volume, low profit. That is a fact. And yes the Ford Vs Holden thing is dead. It's the others they are competing with. |
