I wonder if the owner would be covered by insurance being a natural Volcano disaster?

They would be covered by fire though... And technically it could be argued that the car caught fire.

Hard to produce the evidence

Free Mustang, for any takers. :-) if you can dig it out of the rock.

Misread title as “sad end for mustang” and was expecting an article announcing the discontinuation of the mustang altogether as Ford tightens it’s belt on “no passenger car” policy

Thousands of years from now archaeologists will dig it up and use it as an example of ancient combustable engines of the past.

I think what wasn't burnt would be melted and indistinguishable from the lava rock.

Yeah exactly. And hardly going to risk your life for a $3k Mustang.

Further explanation here: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/09/u...cano-lava.html

Quote:
The car needed a jump-start, and its owner, Mike Hale, had no time to spare.

He had returned on Saturday to his home in the Leilani Estates neighborhood on the island of Hawaii, where eruptions from the Kilauea volcano had forced residents to flee. Mr. Hale had thought he would be able to pack up his tools, dishes and camping gear. But as he and his companions started choking on the hazardous fumes released by volcanic activity, he realized they needed to get out.

The group drove away, leaving his dead car, a banged-up 2004 Ford Mustang that he sometimes rented to tourists, parked next to his mailbox on the side of the road.

By the time Mr. Hale tried to get back the next day, both would be gone. But their fate had been captured in video footage that would spread across television news and social media.
He also has a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/mik3hal3 and he is really not having too much luck or fun.

His facebook page documents the unfolding tragedy including the loss of his home and he has now also a Go fund Me page that those wanting help him can donate to.

Note the facebook link I provided probably won't work unless you have a facebook account that you open before clicking on it; otherwise search for Michael W Hale Hawaii in facebook.
