A number of news outlets have confirmed.

Loved the way he used to stick two fingers up to Cams.
Some things he did were right, and some were wrong. He had his ideas and was tough enough to give them a go.

Looking at the derelict state of Calder Park shows that his maverick attitude didn't always serve him well.

Now the old boys gone $50 on Calder Park turning into a new suburb of Melbourne and the main thoroughfare will be called 'Bob Jane Drive' in some sick warped ode to 'respect'.
That land has to be worth 9 figures as a suburb. |

I'm aware of that, but whats $50M or so cleaning it up when the neighboring suburbs all around Calder Park are selling 450m2 properties for $400K+ in Australia's fastest growing city?
Median house price in Melbourne is $880K bud and theres a LOT of land thats only 22km out of Melbourne CBD, thats right next to a major freeway, with the Bendigo rail line running right by, theres some asbestos and tyres kicking about and that won't be a significant issue for someone to clean up. Who remembers a decade ago when they built a new housing estate next to a tip in Cranbourne that ended up causing issues with dangerous levels of methane in their houses? Local council tried to block it and VCAT overturned their decision. Whats some tyres and abestos in those banks of the Thunderdome? Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 30-09-2018 at 03:41 PM. |

They built a few suburbs around Calder Park. They won't build another race track, motorsport is dead in Australia. |

Only after they move in do they hear the noise and start writing.

Champion racing driver, team owner, track builder and one-time business titan Bob Jane has died at 88. At his 1970s peak, Jane was a remarkably combative and aggressive individual, even by the hyper-masculine standards of the day. Something of his attitude was evident in Jane’s forward-leaning boxer’s stance behind the wheel. Along with thousands of other kids at racetracks around Australia, I sought Jane’s autograph. His tough-guy image wasn’t so evident in those moments. He was always up for a friendly – and occasionally argumentative – chat, even with us dumb nine-year-olds. On the track and in business, however, Jane was one serious player. Through a combination of enormously hard work, financial and physical daring and sheer toughness, Jane eventually built a multi-million dollar tyre empire. John Harvey, who drove for Jane during the late 1960s and early 1970s, tells a beautifully illustrative tale of his former boss. Seriously injured in a crash at Bathurst, Harvey spent some weeks in hospital before Jane undertook to drive him home. At one point Jane stopped at a café to order some food for his still-frail team member. Harvey watched in astonishing at Jane gave precise and rapid-fire details of a health-boosting multi-ingredient milkshake to a flustered counter attendant. When the poor girl gave up in confusion, Jane jumped the counter and made the drink himself. Bob Jane throughout his career made probably as many enemies as he did friends, including – sadly – among his own family. In recent years he declared bankruptcy with only a few dollars to his name. Yet Jane’s achievements remain undiminished. Farewell, Bob. |

When a well known figure passes away it is normal for people to reflect upon their life, and note both their achievements and their failures.

yep I hear you but sometimes people lose sight that someone has died and he was loved, irrespective of his fortune and public airing of dirty laundry so to speak
