Got Wheels magazine today and they are reporting that Ford Australia are having built Ranger Raptors with the 5L V8 Coyote out of the Mustang and will be available through your Ford dealer towards the end of this year with full factory warranty.
Will be interesting to see how they go if it's true |

Nah. Not even the F150 Raptor has a V8. I doubt a Ranger will get one.
I'd be happily proven wrong though |

If true the Raptors will be post factory converted to 5.0 V8 once they arrive in Australia. Is this another Herrod project or Prodrive?

It’s looking likely I heard. Will be assembled in Vic with a base Raptor having the engine swap. Sold through Ford
Will be a bloody great ute. They could charge 90k and it will be a hit. Ironically the V8 is cheaper to manufacture than the Ecoblue diesel Last edited by Brazen; 02-01-2020 at 05:25 PM. |

If it's going to be done, I'd have my money on Herrod doing the conversion. They were talking about doing more projects with Ford when the R-SPEC was unveiled.

I wonder how many Ranger 4x4 buyers buy them for their off road capabilities, versus how many that buy them because they look so good.
Same applies to the Raptor. People are superficial. I can't say I blame them, either. Now, imagine how these superficial buyers will love having a V8 for added cred. This is not unlike having a C63... purely egotistical. I can see it becoming very popular. Perhaps with Dodge and Chev trucks now being available, I think Ford have opted for a cheaper-than-converted-to-rhd F150 option, which I think is a pretty smart choice, considering the Ranger's and Raptor's popularity. |

Isn't the next generation Ranger meant to come out next year? If so, why would they bother considering we were supposedly meant to be getting the turbo V6 in the next gen?

The V8 void simply hasn’t been filled. Whilst this may cost a little more than what a Maloo would have retailed for we need to ask ourselves what other V8 options are out there? The Ram is good value but more often than not too big is just too big, and wouldn’t be anywhere near as dynamic as the Raptor.

It won’t be logical but you would want to hope (for simple maths) that they credit the motor they remove, say $10k, then add in a crate motor, say $18k, plus engineering, wiring etc etc ,say another $8k, but in real life take RRP and add $40k.

Bloody hell 85k for the 2 litre Raptor, yeah worried this will crack 100k

There was a guy in queensland i think it was, that built his own coyote ranger a couple of years ago. From what i recall he said it took very little work to make it fit. The biggest issue he had was getting the electronics to work in tandem with the rangers. But the engine fit like a glove.
