Default au continually beeping noise

Hi
I have a 2002 au ute, done 270km. It has started to continually beep from the dash when the ignition is turned on. The odometer displays normal for 5 seconds then turns too displays 5 and 20 which turns to "off". This beeping is continues when moving. Also when the car goes above 20km another beeping occurs. The speed indicator also flashes. I have tried disconnecting the battery for 12 hours, checked oil and water levels, fuses. No lights are flashing.

Any ideas. Ken

Check if you have a tail light out or your washer level is low.

Mine beeps if the window washer is low, even though it doesn't display on the instrument cluster.

Thanks for responding, checked tail lights, washer bottle. The car is a ute so it has only the basic accessories.

The beeping noise starts 10 seconds after the key is turned be fore the engine is started.

Really or is that 270,000 km? Have a read of this http://fordforums.com.au/wsmpub/augx/Part%2015-3.html from http://www.fordforums.com.au/vbporta...hp?moduleid=82 and then your owners handbook ; the low series does have a basic overspeed mode and a button is probably stuck.

A ecu scan may be needed to see if the bem or dash cluster is faulty. Try what I suggest if all else fails to fix the problem. Good luck!

Hmm maybe the low series Ute being a 1/2 carry over from the E series does miss out on speed control.

Is it one long beep or a series? If series count them (and any pauses) and let us know.

Thanks for responding.
My ute has done 270,000km.
The beeps are continuous, as soon as the key is turned on. Also the other beeping comes in when the car is doing 20km/hr. The airbag light is always on.
The seek and + & - buttons don't work the radio. The Ecom button does not work even the Ecom symbol is on.
I,m starting to think I have a instrument cluster problem, getting a scan done in the next couple of day.

Does the horn work?
Some symptoms there point to clock spring being faulty.

Also, does the beeping change if you turn the headlights on? Either with car running or not?

The overspeed alert is also controlled by the seek button on the steering wheel (hence the circled 'S" on the button). It should work thus: To turn off the speed alert press the seek button for at least 2 seconds. Once the S symbol is displayed on the dash, press mode button and the word OFF will appear where the speed was once displayed. The display will return to normal after a few seconds, or to adjust the overspeed km/hr setting hit the plus or minus volume buttons. Check the harness below the steering wheel has not come fully or partially unplugged.

Is it a bench seat with a column shift or a floor shift? If it's a column shift the non working economy button also suggests a column wiring harness issue. In any event also take the plastic shroud off the column and check all the wiring is intact, undamaged and has never had a aftermarket alarm or similar grafted into the wiring (the may have tried to splice the wrong wire and bodged the rejoin repair).

The steering wheel switches can stick down so also try cleaning them (vacuum cleaner and then contact cleaner lubricant) and simply pulling them towards you to unstick them.

Thank you for getting back to me.

My car is a 3 seat ute with auto on the steering column, base model.

Tried cleaning the seek switch, no difference.

Replaced the instrument cluster from another vehicle, no difference.

Disconnected the 2 wiring terminals that go to the steering wheel (horn, seek switch and airbag) and the 2 beeping noises have gone. No horn and the airbag.

Looks like it has something to do with the airbag system and speed alert (if fitted)

The airbag and radio/overspeed controls do share a common ground (black wire) in the column so check that it is intact and shows no signs of damage or past repairs.

If that is OK then check the cowl earth bolt is tight; inside cabin near base of window - top dash panel has to come off.

Thank you those people who responded.
Problem fix, replaced the clock spring under the steering wheel.
Also fixed the metal bridge in the connector on the left seat belt wiring. (my vehicle does not have a left hand air bag).

My basic Ford AU 2002 Ute has a beeping problem too. It beeps 5 times with a pause and repeats this 5 times (Beeps 25 times in all). Then approximately every 1/2 hour to 1 hour later the same thing happens again. Any ideas.
