Oh, also the Patrol has a bloody good rear LSD, so it will go quite a ways without a diff lock, but if you new about them ,you would know that.

After driving a fair bit of W.A then comparing the 'Interceptor's' responses to what I know about the east coast and particularly the Victorian high country, I would say "stay in W.A. in your Landcruiser mate", there is no comparison on terrain.
You bag out the GQ Patrol, but lets compare apples with apples and talk about the 60 Series Landcruiser (I traveled a lot with B.I.L. and his family, us in our Maverick and him in his 60 Series Landcruiser). I also did a lot of testing for a Victorian Emergency Service, we compared a GQ, an 80 Series, a Toyota Troop Carrier, Toyota Hilux and Land Rover Defender. * Fuel Economy - exactly the same (engine 4.2l vs 4.2l both diesel) * Performance - exactly the same * Repairs over time - him - rebuild gearbox - me viscous coupling on fan You bag out the GQ but compared to the 60 Series, same time line, they were exactly the same but the 60 Series was on LEAF springs, not coil, soot blowing, fuel using (an all that other rambling **** you want to go with). When came to be in the bush, leaf versus coil you know what was better. The 80 Series came out in response to the GQ but with suspension too soft, you could hardly corner it, but with the same old soot blowing, fuel using 4.2l diesel (from Toyota) Compare apples with apples my friend Last edited by Trevor 57; 22-03-2017 at 05:42 AM. |

This is interesting viewing (considering Toyota are NOT innovators, they are followers, you would think they would fix this)

I remember Brock showing up as a guest speaker at a former employer and he was in a Maverick - it created a bit of a stir among the participants

Here is my Maverick, sold it about 10 years ago - damn shame - it was a great car. TD42 with an aftermarket turbo. I sold it to a young bloke for about $5k more than value (at the time) who managed to **** it in a short period of time. It was in great nick, '89 model which we bought when it was 18 months old with 20,000k on it, sold it with 202,000k on it, we had it for 17 or 18 years and saw a lot of Australia in it
