Default Kia recall - WTF!

We just got a recall letter for my daughter's UB Rio. It says it's a safety issue, but parts are not yet available!

It further states that no instances of this fault have occurred in Australia. Why worry us then? Why put out a recall notice, if you can't fix the problem? I thought Ford were a bit dodgy, but this is ridiculous!

There may be legislation requirements that they must adhere to.
Yes, it may be a safety issue but not a life threatening issue and they have (with the government) deemed the risk profile as low.

Actually it is all over the internet.

"The Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), responsible for the Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control System and Traction Control System, can remain live even when the vehicle is switched off," the recall notices state.

"If moisture enters the HECU, an electrical short circuit can occur. If an electrical short circuit occurs, this could result in an engine compartment fire when the key is switched off and the vehicle is parked.

Interesting and probably awkward spot for vehicle insurance in the event of a related claim. I guess that risk mitigation might include having appropriate fire extinguishers to hand and not parking in enclosed spaces.

Wonder how they’ll fix it - a patch harness with electromechanical relay?

Pretty much what the Internet experts reckon will happen if you mix engine oils or use the wrong ATF.

hi
You would be concerned if the the recall gave u a fire blanket !!!!
But seriously you would have to serious question the modern car industry design credentials . More and more design 101 basics are getting warranty /recalls in this day and age . Engineers are becoming gutless and not checking there work ,mainly because of the accounts .
Add to this differential level/filler plug being to low
Weather strip gaps that have daylight gaps where there should be none .
etc etc

I doubt there’ll be many to recall by the LOOKS of it.
