Heya
Ive got a 2.25" Exhaust and am getting pacemaker style extractors fitted for $600. Im going to keep the current exhaust system as this stage. The guy at the exhaust centre said that with the 2.25" exhaust system you will get better all round performance, whereas with the 2.5" exhaust system you will only get more performance high end (say 4000rpm - 6000rpm). Is this guy pulling from the sky or is there some truth to what he is saying ? Has anyone else got a 2.25" Exhaust with extractors ? If so, did you notice much of a power difference after the extractors were fitted ? Thanks

Well I've got 2.5 all the way thru n the power seems to kick in mostly around 2000 revs but then I spose it could have something to do with different brands of cat converters etc..

He's pulling from the sky.
My exhaust is custom made for my car and exhaust in a number of pieces. Each "piece" was one of a number to fit that section and all were dynotuned to find the best possible combination for mid and peak power (low not so much due to my histall). In the end it was a combination of 2.5" and 3" pipe used from the headers to the tip. No 2.25" pipe anywhere. End result is that I can assure you that 2.25" pipe is NOT going to prove any better anywhere in the rev range after 3000rpm.. If you are not really worried about power above 3000rpm then you dont need headers to start with. If you want power after 3000rpm then you are already in the range where 2.5" is going to be a benifit.

Cheers I'll have a chat to AutoTech.
I thought it had to be a bit silly what this place was saying to me, just goes to show that you can't trust some places

I have never been into modifying any of my cars until i got my AUII XR8 and I had no idea there were so many options in the way of exhausts!
I recently had my ute done (last week) and basically got from the cats back done for starters. Is it worth my while replacing anything before the cats? I had fitted a Lukey system, 2 1/2" from the cats into 3" all the way through. I have noticed a bit better throttle response but I haven't really driven it that much as I have work car to use during the week. |

Liverpool Exhausts in Sydney have a good reputation.
As for 2.25" - isn't that stock size? It's also the effective size of a 2.5" press bent system. 2.5" minimum for a 6 or V8.
