Default Help: Engine, exhaust and missing parts

Hello guys,
ref: 1979 ford escort
I have some parts missing from my engine (emission control system) and perhaps some more. Pictures can of the engine.

I am posting here in the hope someone could identify what's missing (what i'll need to get) aswell as provide some information on the type of engine if possible (i'm not car-minded). I can provide more pictures and such if required.

Also for a roadworthy I will need a quieter exhaust.
Pictures of it are here.

The exhaust pipe is 2". Would a new muffler be the first step, or a is a whole new exhaust system needed.

Thanks for the time, looking forward to getting one step closer to roadworthy,
James

Thanks for your reply.

Am I missing what the vacuum hoses plug into? (vacuum pump?)

Also, Should the exhaust have two mufflers (front/rear) ?

there should be a thermodtatic controller valve on the thermostat housing, which has a few vacuum hoses off it.
cant think exactly what they go to, but i think 1 goes to distributor vacuum advance, and another to carby or manifold.

exhaust should be fine with 1 muffler. well, thats all i got.
i have extractors, and 2 1/4" pipe from extractors to tail pipe.

Thanks again, If anyone else could shed anymore light on the vacuum hoses and locations it would be great.

As for my exhaust, I might have to take it off and have a decent inspection, probably the muffler has carked it, because it's extreamly loud roaw at the moment (at all rpm).
