Muse's New Album: Black Holes and Revelations

Different from their previous albums but in a really good way methinks

Great album, got it playing in the car ATM. Absolution is still their greatest album IMO hasn't been taken out of the 5 disc home stereo since it went in there 3 years ago.

I agree - Absolution was a better album. I think Butterflies and Hurricanes is one of their best songs. My favourite off the new album is Starlight

Butterflies and Hurricanes is amazing...the piano solo in the middle sends chills down my spine everytime i hear it..and Dont forget Stockholm Syndrome :sm_drool:

City Of Delusion, Map of the Problematique and Knights of Cydonia are probably my favourites

I discovered Muse on Optus vision (remember that old chestnut) waaay back in mid 1999 and have been a fan ever since.


On the subject of other bands that could be referred to as sleeping giants, anyone else on here like Lacuna Coil?

Yeah i've got it and must admit i don't think much of it. But Absolution is Great!

One i'm REALLY enjoying at the moment is the latest album from 'The Butterfly effect' called Imago...

What's i'm listening right now though... Dreamtheater's Octavarium... Beautiful and Brutal all in one.

Yea, I've been listening to the New Tool Album and a bit of the Tea Party here and there...
I'll have to look up Dreamtheater though Always keen to get my mitts on fresh music!

Firstly, Absolution was imo a better effort from the Devon boys than the new Black Holes and Revelations album, although in saying that I still have a bit of an issue with Muse as a whole, I simply dont think that they are worthy of the cavalcade of accolodes that appear to be thrown upon them for the works that they have thus far produced, Matthew Bellamy's vocal talents are fairly limited and certainly not anywhere near in the same league as the very man he tends to imo try and emulate, the wonderfully gifted Mike Scott who of course was and always will be a truely inspirational artist.
Secondly, yes Imago is a very good album and a great and worthy follow up to what was imho perhaps the finest "debut album" ever released anywhere in the world arguably over the past 25 years or so, put simply I thought the "Begins Here" album was absolutely incredible and a truely magnificent piece of work and should serve as an inspiration for all those local bands out there trying to beat the good old Aussie "Tall Poppy Syndrome" that is still unfortunately to this day very much alive and well, not since Joy Divisions masterpiece debut album "Unknown Pleasures" released in 1979 has imo any debut release come anywhere close to having such an impact, "Unknown Pleasures" is of course still to this day widely recognised as one of the finest pieces of work ever produced.....period!!
I must say at this point that Austalian music imo as a whole has matured and indeed surpassed most of the offerings from it's overseas counterparts over the last 10 - 15 years of so, take a listen to albums such as Epicures 2004 release "The Goodbye Girl", Endorphin's 2001 double album "Skin", Halogen's "Save the Ones you Love" from 2003 or Melodyssey's 2004 release "Distance and Regret" to name but a few for evidence of this.
Thirdly, Dream Theater have been responsible for some great albums over the years, I have not yet had the pleasure of hearing "Octavarium" myself but have heard some promising views on it, for me though the pick of all of their releases has to be the incredible journey that is "Scenes from a Memory" released in 1999, I remember when it first came out I was completely unable to remove it from my CD Player, every time I went to take it out I simply ended up playing it through again, a magnificent album, thinking about it now it would have to be up there in my all time top ten.....yea stuff it, I'm going to give it another spin in the car tomorrow on the way to work, it's the only thing that makes the drive worthwhile, listening to truely quality works from great musicians over the years.....gotta love it!!

It's great to hear from another Dream Theater fan, we a few and far between. What i would do (or pay) to see them here....

Octavarium is quite a directional change from previous albums, and initially, it had to grow on me. I would definitely say that it isn't as well a rounded album as previous albums, but i believe it's not its purpose.

SFAM - YES, AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. Musically one of my favorite albums to play on guitar (not that i can play it all), it's great.
