Another update on the ESS. It's all working, with 3 issues, 2 are minor, one not so. But just to make all the T series guys jealous, the report I have is that the volume controls still work, but there is a slight break in audio (one of the minor issues) - still, better than having no volume control! The not so minor issue relates to holding the car in first, but a solution will be found (or I'll just take it the way it is anyway!!!).

I haven't really loooked into the 'inner' running setup of how the BTR 4speed auto works yet, but if it's anything like the first lot of ford FIAD/FIOD 4speed autos years back (i dont know yet?) / has this issue with holding 1st/ or shifting from 1st to 2nd got anything to do with the shift from 1st to 2nd being a hydraulic shift inside the box ? (the Fiad/Fiod was), or is it simply to do with mashing the tranny up !..lol , as most trannys don't like being shifted manualy from 1st to 2nd under load without eventually spitting the dummy ?

I also think it may the hydraulic thing, but I know nothing about these boxes. I don know that I had the same issue with the BA SSS setup in the wagon - it would hit about 50km/h in first and then just grab a box of neutrals; flick the gear shift up for an electronic change and it would go into second just fine, and would hold second and vbounce off the rev limiter. So it may be an electronic "safety" feature in the box.

Hmm , interesting , cheers. I've also been looking at another way around this in the way of wiring it up, in which there would be no need to access the ecu or need any pcb of any kind to control it , i've just been working it out off the electric technical document shematics at the moment, im yet to get under the car and have a look and rip out the console too to have a look.

I'll keep you all informed how i go on this mod too , so far i've just been looking at modding it though so you can put a switch somewhere to activate triptronic , and use the (+) and (-) volume controls or cruise control buttons to change gears , athough there's no reason why it could'nt be changed easily to use a momo wheel with the extra triptronic gear changing switches.

If it is a hydraulic change from 1st to 2nd ? ( soon to find out ) , that would make sence with the box hitting nutruel/safety .. and if that is the case , then darn im gonna have to go making a pcb too and go hacking into the ecu . lol

Still a work in progress anyway .. cheers .

EDIT .... now i think of it , it actually wouldn't be to hard to skip the safety feature / if that is the case, well incorperate it into the setup anyway .

Really I'de just need to make a pcb that will read the cars revs/tacho, have an adjustable pot on the pcb so it can be set to different rpm settings for different cars. Have the pcb register the potted setting (If say your car hits safety/nuetural around 50km/& say around 5900 rpm) then you would set the pot to hit safety around 5850rpm, which in turn would automatically change the gear to 2nd if you didn't change it to 2nd before 5850rpm. hmmmm

i know what you're getting at, but i'd really hope that 5900 rpm would get you a bit faster than 50 lol....just putting mine in first and accelerating it can get to 80 before redline, thats just an i6

lol , that was just an example ;) , you would be able to set it so it changes to 2nd just before redline with the adjustable pot on the pcb, before the safety/neutral feature as JC mentioned cuts in . cheers .
