I've just noticed a huge difference in Vic compared to Tas. VicPol seem to be very intimidating just imo. If other States worse then it's a worry, but not my place to say right or wrong etc. |

I'm a big fan of keep left unless overtaking, but what annoys me more than people not keeping left is people who are in the right lane flashing their lights and sitting 1m off the back of a car who is legitimately using the right lane. |

I am from NSW and not from Victoria but was a Professional driver for 30 years
Driving Hire Cars in Sydney for five years and trucks for ten years. I was so upset when I heard four Police officers died just because they attended a traffic matter that is so sad. All my years of driving for a living I lost count off all the stupid things I have seen from stupid people on the road who don't think. One that comes to mind was at the time I was driving a 13ton truck down the upper north shore and I was in the right lane just slowing down to get ready to turn right into Ryde Road at Pymble. It was raining and at the last minute a car cut in on my lane and stoped. How I didn't run into the back of him I am not sure but I managed to stop. My wife have traveled a lot driving holidays Victoria, Alice Springs, Qld, South Australia and we have never been pulled up by interstate Police so I cant really say what there like. |

Actually that is not correct for cars built after 2006. They have to comply with ADR 18 (https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2006L01392) which states that for cars the speedo cannot show a speed slower than the actual speed the vehicle is travelling. A direct quote from ADR 18" The production shall be deemed to conform to this Regulation if the following relationship between the speed indicated on the display of the speedometer (V1) and the actual speed (V2) is observed: In the case of vehicles of categories M and N: (V1 – V2) = 0.1 V2 + 6 km/h;" From where did you get the figure that trucks speedos have to be +-%1? Would they not be a NC class vehicle and fall under the same rule? So taking the worst case of my speedo reading 110 my actual speed would have been 93km/h. I have tested my speedo and it is about 2km off. So in that case my speed would have been 108. Trucks are no allowed to travel over 100km/h on Victorian roads (https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/safe...d-rules/trucks). So not only was the truck driver tailgating me he was also speeding.

Actually I think the police here in Vic are less aggressive than they were years ago, I think I know how you feel since I visited Tassie a few years back, seen very little of police when I was there and you do not have the population we have here in Vic to warrant more police on the roads imo. Cheers |

Just on Tas Police, my dear Mum was pulled over last year and had the following initial issue;
Talking on the phone whilst driving (very silly I agree). Upon looking at Rego, the Officer then noticed Dad have forgotten to pay the recent bill - so it was an Unregistered vehicle also. Finally, Mum is required to wear glasses when driving (noted on her license) and didn't have them on either as was a clear day. (can't see in dark too well) Mum said very sorry and was told (amazingly)............. "to drive home immediately, fix the Rego before driving again, and consider this a stern caution Mrs (X). Have a good day." True story even if sounds unrealistic I know. Mum hasn't been pulled over for years. I couldn't believe it either and said to Mum was EXTREMELY LUCKY.......there is lots of points and fines there if he wanted to enforce them all!!! (as most Officers would no doubt) |

It also depends on … Why they pulled you over. Who you are. Who pulled you over, such as HVU, HWP, general duties, etc Did you fail the attitude test? Does your vehicle attract “unwanted” attention? There’s also a lot of other reasons where you can be extremely “passionate” with them regarding their behaviour when the circumstances are not traffic related. Over the last four years I’ve have frequent dealings with many members and believe me, they stuff things up, and often. There’s an immense sense of satisfaction when a magistrate gives a uniformed member a dressing down for their “unprofessional” behaviour in court. Remember, police are there to do a job, they are not your friends.

Haha.....yep My mum is barely 55kgs and quiet as.
Funny thing is (I know not cool for this forum but Mum LOVES it - drives a Red VXII manual SS Commodore in mint condition. People can't believe it....ha) Her favourite possession. Redback exhaust only upgrade as standard way too quiet otherwise completely standard. Hence where I get my love of cars from when growing up as Mum's older brother has owned an EH Holden from day 1. Also perfect condition and I suspect worth a bit these days.......... Last edited by MercuryT; 11-05-2020 at 04:50 PM. |

No Mum's is driven like a Corolla would. (hence 100K thread where a Hilux and Corolla chosen - scarily boring, but fair enough) Close to best used SS (for model) in Aust so we're keeping it. |

I hope the cops "give him a hand down the stairs" if they have to let him out on bail.

My understanding is Justices/Magistrates have had enough of Mental Health always being used.
Let's see I guess but he seems a complete di^khead of a guy. |

The truck driver would be pretty happy the Porsche guy is stealing the limelight. The Porsche guy is no role model (quite the opposite), but he played a relatively minor role in this incident.
