Yeah, sure I could have driven a manual with the driving instructor, but at 50 bucks a pop I could only afford a handful of lessons.

So I had the choice of sitting for the auto license, which I knew I had a great chance of getting first shot, or going for the manual which I had less of a chance of getting first shot because 1. I wasn't ever going to be as experienced driving a manual than driving an auto and 2. there are more things to stuff up.

And if I failed, it would have cost me more time and more money, which as a teenager you have little of both. I thought it would be a no brainer.

this is the same as me.
got 4 cars at home, all autos, including mine.
so i just got an auto licence.
sure its a disadvantage, especially since i have been looking at getting another car, but i'll just deal with it.
iv driven a manual once, and it wasnt too hard, still need practice though.

I thought that the laws in NSW have change a few years ago,
saying if you were to pass in an Auto you can't drive a Manual ever at all.

You have to take the test all over again in Manual.

In Vict, the auto part disappears off your licence once your probationay period (3 years) is over.

Simple- In vic you can drive manual or auto when you get your full license. If you turn it over the card will say "condtions" if nothing is there you can drive what you want. I went for my auto license and had to have an auto on my p's.
Now fully licensed, I happily get around in my gf's manual rav 4, been pulled over 3 times in it and cops never said anything.

IMO (and i express this with passion) if you cant drive a manual, you have no business driving a car.

what really gets me, is you can get an auto license and as soon as your off your P's and have a full license, you can drive a manual car.
now thats 1st class safety for all road users right there.
Auto license = auto license for good, till you can prove you can drive a manual.

I agree, unless you have a disability, then you are required to get a munaul licence. I hate it when people say they got their 'full' licence in an auto.

It is cheaper (less lessons) and quicker to get auto licence.

Is it true the auto restriction is lifted when you are off your P's?

Big_Trev is correct this does disappear off your licence when off your P's unless required for medical purposes
