Slightly off topic... but you probably don't spend as long, or as much, detailing your car as this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LSle_WgexQ

Most of my clients would say similar = two minutes unless they have the keys ready that is!
But my answer is anywhere from 1 hour to four days depending on what level you want.
At the end of the day though if you have to explain it, they probably won't understand!

: Hi. When I have purchased cars and they have been detailed, ( is that clean a car or shorten a cat or dog ), I have bought them home, got out the cleaning gear and set to cleaning, polishing etc. There is a HELL of a difference between a paid detailer and an owner and the job they do or don't do. It takes me a good half day to wash and clean the inside and next day it is a polish for half a day. It's not my age either as I have been doing it for 45 years. I'll get it right some time.:

Depends on the paid detailer......Some who are handy with a rotary buffer and use premium products (not Turtle Wax or Armoral) do a fantastic job and are well worth the money....I had mine professionally clar barred, polished and waxed in January and it was the best $300 I've spent on the car...I recommend them
