Just found out today that the gas carb on the SR isn't big enough for the V8. That alone will set me back $500 new, plus I'd say at least a few hundred more for LPG mucking around.
Racecraft's estimate of 6 large isn't that far off! I need to think this through a bit more and look at the numbers closely again. GK

Well keep me posted mate...!!!
The LPG will be the killer I think... That's why mine was taken out... I was looking at over $1000 to get mine sorted, but I needed my tank re-stamped as well.... You'll figure it out soon enough George...! Cheers Kris ...............I still reckon GO FOR IT!!!!!!

I can't really afford to not have this car on LPG as it's a daily driver, doing over 450 kays per week. You’re right though, I’ll get it figured. If I can get a good and fair price for my VFR800, then I'll probably still do it. GK

If it's any consolation George, I got over 600kms on my first tank of petrol with the V8..
Cost me about $75 to fill it with 95 premium.. Mixture of hwy and suburb driving, with quite a heavy right foot..! I was surprised...!

Just weighing in to put a plus 1 to the 'sell it and buy a V8' camp.
A new car, no matter how similar, is kind of like a new girlfriend There's a stack of stuff you expect, then there's often a few little things you didn't that make it interesting.

Hi All,
Made the decision and "Sensible George" has won! LOL! I was down the street just now to absentee vote and I also took the opportunity to pop into the LPG mech that I use near work. He was +1 for the sell the car and buy a (newer) V8 camp, but also warned me off an impco setup for the Windsor. In fact he's not much in favour of mixer ring setups either. He's seen a bit of trouble with backfiring etc, etc. He recommends an SVI setup (on a more modern V8), but my funds will certainly not stretch that far. I'm certainly not going into debt to replace a perfectly good Falcon so I will therefore will keep the SR. It's still great to drive with the T5 and it's cheap motoring on the LPG. The car owes me nothing. I'm best to wait for the next car and go the SVI or such route. Thanks for your contributions/suggestions/encouragements etc, I appreciate you all taking the time to read, think and comment. Thanks especially to Kris and JC who've fielded a few calls and PMs. I love this forum. Cheers, GK

Wuss!
Sensible? That doesn't a V8 make. You want details of that SVI BA G220?

Well done GK, pour six grand into an AU worth five grand and all you'll be left with is an AU worth five grand.
It makes far more economic sense to flog off the AU and buy something newer and better. There was a nice BA MkII XT in acid yellow with the 3V V8 in a local car yard the other week. Something like that'd be a sweet upgrade for ya.

Glad to have been able to help out mate....
It would've been a nice mod for the SR but I do understand your point with the LPG.. Either way, at least you're not still stressing over it, everything back to normal now..! As I said, I may have to come around, take you for a spin, and change your mind back to wanting a V8......

i am a firm beleiver in not getting into huge debt on depreciating assets like cars. so there goes the 30-35g bf gt's, that to me, are some of the best value used cars at the moment. BUT if you got 3-5g for yours and beg, borrow or steal 5g more you could easily pick up a very nice au2-3 xr8. they are getting a smidge long in the tooth but they are fantastic cars and are suprisingly fuel efficant .not to mention well and truely sorted,if there is anything that is not covered on this site it is not worth knowing.i beleive you should definately go for your goals if they are easily obtainable such as this. but if the finances are too tight then it is the right thing to stay put, they are just toys afterall.
