ironically, whenever enthusiasts are all lumped in together with hoons etc on programs like ACA or other publications, all the role models on here are up in arms. |

i agree 100%. no where have i stated that cyclists are right and motor vehicles need to give way. this is about sharing the road. i thought, being a car forum, it might be an idea to bring it to the attention of motorists, but so far it is looking like many have some sort of issue with it.

I know what your trying too say. I for one am for safety for all road users. I think maybe if the police started too enforce some of these stupid acts that both sides do. ie( cyclists that think they own the road etc and motorists who try too ram cyclists etc) it might make it safer for all. |

i know how it is. i ride around and i see cyclists doing things that they shouldn't, but everyday i drive my car as well, and see many motorists doing things they shouldn't. everyone is entitled to use the road. whether they should or shouldn't is debatable, but they do, so everyone has to deal with it. |

if I was a copper. that is one thing i'd try too go after is the cyclists vs motorists things. have seen some bad behaviour by both sides. the best advice I can give anyone riding a push bike is keep left as far a possible be aware of everything around you and look out for trouble. I never have been abused on a push bike or been intimidated by a motorists while on a push bike. then again I make sure I cant **** anyone off. I usually ride on the road when traffic flow is quiet or at a moderate flow. when it gets heavy i'll use the foot path and use common sense. I might get abuse by pedestrians and might be breaking the law riding on the foot path but it beats getting hit by a 1.5 tonne car or worse. just common sense

Why should bike riders only ride on "roads that are safe" (your words)? Should cars also have the same restriction? Many roads were built over horse and cart tracks so maybe we should ban them from there? All anybody is asking for is a bit of commonsense and respect from both sides. 99.9% of cyclists also own and drive cars so it shouldn't be an 'us and them.' |

Cyclists really do hinder the travel of some motorists. It is the nature of the vehicle. It's a flimsy unit that is human powered.
The real problem is in a collision between a car and a cyclist is that the cyclist is the one that will be injured or killed. I used to cycle a lot as a commuter and I have seen both sides of people's arguments. The roads cause a lot of issues. But at the end of the day who is going to get injured? I could not handle killing a person on the road however stupid or arrogant they were. Unfortunately we are so far behind places in Europe that have made enough allowances for both types of road users. Step through mopeds get the same attitude in Australia as cyclists. In Europe they are common enough that car drivers accept them and respect them. If there were enough cyclists on the road then the government would provide better roads and drivers would be more used to them. Hopefully then those cyclists whom over 90 percent of drive a car as well would know how to use the road properly all the time. I am sure this issue arose as cars started to take over from horses on the road. |
