Just a small nit picking point.
Marketing is not advertising. The two are quite distinct.

Maybe by younger generations, but to me the '70's ad for the Chrysler Sigma going through the plate of glass was the most memorable. Also the Ford ad with the Ford racing drivers standing in a line acting as witches hats while the XC slaloms around them. |

I have seen several vf's in the flesh now and they look really good on the road. Pictures don't do them justice.

[QUOTE=Silver Ghia;4787816]I can't even remember an ad for the FG when it was introduced, or since then. [\QUOTE]
How could you forget the walking fingers? It us probably one of the most memorable Ford ads of recent times..... for all the wrong reasons. Last edited by stevz; 24-06-2013 at 02:27 PM. |

The VF definately wont be on my shopping list when it comes time for a replacement for my current F6, at this stage its looking more and more likely that i'll go back to a dual cab Ranger or similar if a Ford makes the list.

I just managed to watch the advert now...what an amazing ad! Loved the bit about "Now there are two lucky countries" with the Yank version.
One annoying thing about it, that should upset Ford Falcon owners? It's full of technology and features that other makes have had for years (self parking, a heads up display for speed which the Nissan Bluebird had in the 1990s for christs sake, etc), but Ford was too bloody lazy to fit to the Falcon...the Falcon, given a chance, some fricking advertising, and a few up to date features, not to mention being allowed off the leash and onto the export market, could have been so much more... |

Ford obviously do have a marketing department except the Falcon was on the "not to do" list. I've seen the new Kuga add about 150 times now as well as the public display of the car in the city parklands about a month or so back

Personally, loved the ad, thought it was great. The reference to the US I thought was clever- I think they're desensitising people to the imminent demise of the Commodore and essentially endorsing the acceptance of the Chevrolet as a (very near) future replacement...

It's a good ad.
Will it reignite sales of the Commodore? Maybe a for a very short period. Then it will be back to normal and Holden will go the way of Ford (unfortunately).

I guess it was world class. Didn't even have their own engine. World class indeed.

Is it because it's Australian made that it looks better to you? They are by no means ugly, but I saw one on the road and guess what? It looked exactly the same as in the photos; propaganda notwithstanding.

This is typical GM/Holden. Spend, spend, spend. I'm still proud that Ford was the only one of the big 3 not needing a bail out. That may give a clue as to why Ford Head Office seem to have a tighter rein on things, as opposed to the GM philosophy of making people think it's alright and spend, spend, spend. Do people really think Commodore will be up at 4000 sales per month again? For the sake of the workers at Holden, I hope manufacturing continues. I can't help but think though that Holden are running a good PR campaign. They have made the decision to pull out already. Marketing the car and giving it their all will enable them to say "see, we tried". Ford canned the Falcon years ago, hence no marketing. Hence no unnecessary spending.

As a kid the only advertising I remember clearly was watching the Holden Stunt driving team at just about every single local show I went to, never saw any Ford stunt team that is for sure. Those things made a difference |

Saw a SV6 Sportwagon on the road today, looked a lot better than I thought it would. The wagon body matches the VF front better than the VE did.

I've seen the ad a few times now and I just want to pay a visit to a dealership to check it out in the flesh. Obviously the advertisement is making all the right noises to me!

Best car advertisement ever?
Being totally unbiased here, I'm sorry but the car still has no appeal to me. Tacky interior, cheap looking front end (chrome bezels, overdone plastic look), ugly as hell scrunched up rear and those side vents are SO friggin' tacky it's unbelievable. Quote:
I can't believe the amount of love this car is getting on these forums. It's embarrassing. I'd rather have something slightly dated with character and balls, minus pointless gadgets and chrome bezels, than this boring look-like-every-asian-car-on-the-road POS.

I do like the 'Think Holden'
If it puts a element of placing a thought to at least check it out in the flesh, then it has done its job

[QUOTE=stevz;4787825]' Can't get enough of this ' in 2002 and Alex Lloyd's '...Ford Territory, with 6 speed auto and AWD, the possibilities... are amazing.' Glory days. Ever since then, Ford has never produced a memorable ad.

Holden is a "special case". The Commodore is an export earner, the Falcon is a purely local model. Perhaps if Ford USA had loosened their grip a little on the local arm of the company, and let them export the Falcon, things might have been different.

Reminds me a little of the 50th Anniversary Falcon G6ET ad. I guess the man difference was Holden actually has some interesting Technology to talk about, unlike the Falcons Bluetooth and iPhone integration (yeah like no other cars got that).
http://youtu.be/UEQ1u6Euy9A Good Luck to them, still mutton dressed up like lamb.
