That's insane, are they being used as 1 barrels?

I haven't used carbs for over 20 years, but I know some like webers pretty well. Truth is most people didn't have to know them very well, they sort of just worked if you could slap one on there and happy to run rich
You could do cray stuff like above, or do nothing right, or just like efi, read the bloody manuals and do it properly. Worst thing about carbs is maintenance - blocked jets and sticking valves. Of course they can't be tuned infinitely between off idle to before full throttle either so they are inferior to EFI - don't get me wrong

In the old days of course you could pay someone to do it properly, but those people aren't around anymore, but it's equivalent to modern times where you could drive a modern car without knowing anything, and just pay people if you you need it set up or repaired.

In the cortina section I posted the weber manual.

E: Never too old to learn, I think I learned something the other day when someone talked about dieseling after ign cut. Most people think that's hot spots and timing related but they pointed out it's usually the idle set too high. So the intermediate idle circuit (holes drilled to be on or just above the butterfly) are probably exposed at idle/shut off because the idle screw was turned too high to mask some other problem.
Of course factory carbs have a solenoid to shut idle fuel to prevent this, but aftermarket carbs don't and it made a lot of sense. First I'd heard of it or thought about it. Of course it does me no good as I can't afford a carbed car these days!

There's an absolute guru who does carb tuning/setup around the corner from us at work, but he's right on the cusp of throwing in the towel after 45 years in the industry.

Also come across a bloke in his 80s who is one of the few who could do casting for babbitt bearings who is still going.

I'd say we're very close to losing those skills as an entire industry.

they were porn and them were the days.

Absolute b itch to tune and so so tempramental but wow they looked great.
As many of us know from those times you had the choice.
I went down the easier but still good Holley path, easier to tune changing the jets whereas other went Webbers.
My mates Cooper S had 45mm Webber, wow did that thing go and sound of the webber sucking in air whilst in the cabin was horny sounds

Quite often when i had my E49 i would fantasize about Holley's, but after a visit to Borg Warner in Vic Park (WA) i soon forgot about them, when they are on song triple Weber's are just brilliant....

agreed DJR-351, once tuned up they are brilliant, trouble was they got out of tune sooner than you'd like.
I would have loved them believe me, just that the holley road was far more reliable staying in tune and far easier to play with.
Used to have a few different size jets in the car for just in case, easy as if needed to correct.

.....and that's when i would fantasize about a Holley lol.

Truthfully though even though it was a pain in the azz when the got out of tune i would never have changed them on that car, 265 + Weber's where made for each other, can't say I would have fitted them to another though.
