I purchased a C200 for the wife about 5 years ago, she still hasn't stopped smiling
If you were after a mid size SUV why would you want a small hatchback instead from merc or bmw? The comparison makes zero sense.

And if you follow mainstream manufacturers, you might realise the gap has closed quite a lot.

Actually we were just after a car, we sampled plenty of cars in our price range and below, the Euros I am afraid are the better choice, Plus we purchased a Sedan not a hatchback.

Its a personal choice, It may not make sense to you, but it did to me.

Mainstream offer plenty of choice, but bang for buck and overall level of finish and feel the Euros for us were perfect, whereas the mainstream are a little behind and very plastic.

Looking at options for my wife/family vehicle. We live somewhat regionally, tow a caravan every now and then, and also although not a lot sometimes offroad i.e sandhills or beach. We have used a my10 SR5 auto which has been amazing, but the time to offload it draws near as it nears 300k kms + wear and tear. We have 2 skids, and currently one dog (previosly 2 - RIP Leo) and heavier malter/s, and will likely get dogs in the future. Therefore Hilux has been the best choice. Other options?

I like the idea of a puma or everest but my wife isnt good at keeping cars clean. Mid range $$ but since COIVD them 2nd hand 4wds go fo big $$ especially with options

Actually I think what happened with Ford of Europe is that Merc and Bmw decided to full range their cars bringing out smaller cars just above Fords small car range. How has Ford responded. Its killed off Focus and Fiesta as people moved on in some cases to Name Euro s.
Merc and Bmw ate Fords lunch.

a pretty good point that.
Once upon a time the Euros had NO small models now look at them.
Hatchbacks/small sedans/small SUV's and mid sizes - they have picked up where others left off ie Ford.
I've mentioned before why is the toy crowd so strong despite all the wrongs and not like they used to be.....Range.
The euro's have good range as well whereas the yanki doodle Blue collar company has shrinked.
Not just them but seems all merican companies withdrew/or lets say retreat more and more from everywhere else but focus on Nth Merica.

How good we're the last Focus/Fiesta models, a sector that is massive yet the japs/koreans/euros keep pulling numbers and Ford couldn't keep in any fight.
The small/mid SUV sectors, again just no where.
Its very sad - since FGX I have not gone to a Ford to date.

Thanks Kevino,

In case anyone wants to read more:
https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...in-europe.html
I find it odd they have used the same name as an existing production vehicle which iirc is still sold in Europe in it's PHEV version...although sales are tiny.

Surely you have some choice's under consideration put em up.
So far, taking into account flexibility, size, number of cup holders (eek), and all the other stuff women like...and taking into account the way rechnology works, it seems that the Tesla model X would fit the bill.

So she wants the feel good electric experience, or hybrid.

But...she hates the stupid doors on it...and so do I.

Trading in a C250 wagon with all the AMG stuff on it btw...but we have had fun with the diesel thingey and are over it.

Latest X Trail from Nissan petrol electric hybrid getting very good reviews.

Ford Escape PHEV but not sure on cup holders/think the Nissan would floor Ford on that one.

Tesla model Y.

That Audi E tron but getting some poor reliability reviews in US.

Merc electric SUV.

Too much choice at $ end of market.

The X-Trail with this ‘E power’ is not that economical, you are far better going full Hybrid. Bit of a gimmick in my op.

Sure(& I have read the reviews) but the ‘Hybrid’ system( which is not a ‘proper’ hybrid) just does not cut it against a full Hybrid system.A diesel will get better economy. There are quite a few articles about this particular set up.I was interested in the E-Power Qashqai, but after researching them, decided to go full Hybrid.

Reviews mean nothing when reviewers are paid by advertising budgets of reviewed items manufacturers. X Trail is series hybrid , engine is not connected to the driven wheels , engine acts as a generator. So it is an EV with a small battery and onboard generator. Either get a proper EV or conventional ICE , series hybrid has disadvantages of both. Parallel hybrid significantly reduces fuel use by EV boosting in area of high fuel use (slow stop start pattern) so if it has to be a hybrid it is probably the best option .

Yup, correct on the Nissan setup.Honda & Toyota have the best Hybrids on the planet. They are the only Hybrids worth purchasing.

Alot of the inner city councils around here use them for parks and gardens. On conditional licenses, single lane roads not over 50kph etc.

We had a licensed one at a Golf estate I worked on, IRS, turf (slick) tyres and a diff lock, it was always good fun running around the suburb in it
