That car was built about 5-10 years ago, was featured in street machine, the amount of engineering required for it to all fit was very little in actual fact, the driveline would have been the biggest cost.
It's an awesome job, the guy though I reckon it will fit, measured it up, and it fitted, so he went for it, I take my hat off to the guy

Very nice work to the bloke that did it. My parents had a VL Calais - probably the nicest Australian 80's car I've ever driven. Until my uncle wrote it off (left the handbrake off on a steep hill)

Take a look at the comments the Twin Turbo XF AWD built and developed with around $2m funding is recieving in another thread on here? Nothing but "Oh, that was/will be such a weapon..." all round. Whilst alot of money was spent, this commodore was not built (to the best of my very limited knowledge :P) with a such huge amount of funding, and yet the owner still has an absolute weapon of a car to enjoy driving around in... I think some people need to give credit where credit's due...

It's a lot of time and effort put into building a Skyline around a VL Commodore. I guess he liked the R31 engine so much he decided to use an R32+ engine and driveline
Isn't it amusing how, after $50,000 put into it, it doesn't have a) a 10" tacho on the dash, b) neons, c) 12" subwoofers in the boot, d) decals? |

Nothin like pickin the sh*t out of someones hard work and obviously pride and joy.
He knew what he wanted to do and he done it.........no its not to my taste either but i give the man full credit....obviously a lot of dollars and hours put into it. Thats the big prob with building a dream car.....the resale will never ever reflect the cost or effort that made it one in the first place. I reckon ......bloody good on him...i wonder what he could do with my XP to make it stand out from the crowd. |

I was just going to post the exact same reply . I cant understand the thinking of some people . Just because its a Holden it s not interesting at all ???? Its WAYYYYYY not my type of car , but I can admire the machine it is ! Havent seen one negative comment about the Twin turbo all wheel drive XF either ! Are thay so different ! No , Almost exactly the same , just using different make of car and adding different make of parts to produce the exact same car ! And While I hate VW automobiles with a passion , the Kombi in a previous link is just ken amazing! Love it !

I seem to remember it was run on a dyno and the article stated that it had about 500rwkw's and apart from the stance, bodykit and rims you'd never know _2: It's a bit like the dude a few years ago who stuffed a BB429 into an old 60's Cortina GT500. It still ran the 13" steelies with hubcaps, venetians in the rear window and the drinking straw sized exhaust out the back. Absolute sleeper!! Yes I would own the VL in a second, anything that's a well engineered sleeper is OK in my book. I can appreciate all types of modified cars. My 2 cents. Matty

Yeah definitely an awesome car. Its amazing how some people bag out a car for the sake of it. Mind you even some of the HSV enthusiasts have had trouble acknowledging the car.

I just feel sorry for the Group A GTR in the back ground that would have most likely been where all the parts came from. What a waste!

I think credit should be given where credit is due.
Who really gives a f@#k if its a VL not all VLs are bogan pieces of crap like alot of people think. I think some people should base their negative opinions on something other then its a Holden and because its a VL. It gets quite annoying when people do that. |

Some people take the negative comments the wrong way, i actually own a Holden atm, but i hate VL's and XE and XF don't do much for me either, to me it's a model bash not a brand bash.

I'm with Falcon coupe, alot of he negative comments have been taken the wrong way. It is entirely possible to appreciate a car without liking it. Personally I strongly dislike the VL, especially with Lego-like body kits all over it, and I'm not really into turbo 6's (I'm a V8 guy through and through). I totally appreciate the work done to the car. I still don't like it. And for the record I would much prefer a rear wheel drive to a 4wd.

I'm not sure whats wrong with the car and what the title has to do with the car. Looks like a standard VL calais. No huge body kits, has nice wheels and theres no graphic's. Its had a heap of engineering done to it, and looks nice and clean. Maybe its priced a bit high, but the owner thinks its at the right price.
Is it because it's a holden? Give some credit to the owner. I'm sure it took a lot of work to get that car engineered. |

Gives me a giggle to see people dish out manure at the car and the owner. Sure it’s a VL, and their reputation precedes any such vehicle with a horrible stigmata.
It’s just funny to see narrow-minded individuals who could be described as nothing more than automobile amateurs (regardless of their age or their 'prestigious list of previous vehicles) go to town on cars. You know who you are, and frankly anyone with 1/2 a brain sees right through your thin veil, to expose what lies beneath, a desperate amateur desperately seeking approval from his/her own kind. Keep at it boys, if it helps you sleep at night.

Oh lord give me a break. Heavens forbid anyone doesn't like this car just because you do. The last thing we need is some arrogant jerk like you telling us what we should like and what we shouldn't. I don't think anyone in this thread has denied the amazing amount of work that has gone into this car, but alot of us still don't like it. Why can't you maroons get this through your head, some people don't like this car. It's a personal opinion, and it doesn't make anyone a "desperate amateur," it makes us human beings with opinions. |
