You guys driving over the power to weight limit on a regular basis and saying it's never enforced, I'm guessing you live no where near Knox? Try it some Friday night.

I think we might be missin the point here people. were talking about the first car of an inexperienced driver who clearly doesnt mind the idea of avoiding the rules.
Now lets not presume that he is going to drive dangerously, but im not going to believe for one minute that he will never have teenage mates with him and we all know what that means GROUP PRESSURE! Why do you need a powerful car? towing:- a good 6 will do that easy sound :-get a V8 door bell performance :-not at your age most people crawl before they walk, this is because the bumps hurt less with experience!!!! |

^^ I agree 100%.
Also, paying insurance etc on an AU V8 would be a ridiculous amount. And I wouldn't get it in your dads name, because what happens when you get off your P's and want to have insurance in your name.. you have to start from scratch. Also, there's a few companies that won't insure P plater's with V8's full stop. Even if you put it in your dads name, they won't allow drivers under 25 (i think) to drive the car. I think your much better off getting a standard 6cyl EA-EL and working some minor mods to get the car going well enough. That way, you avoid high insurance costs, higher petrol costs (and that's a ИИИИИ at younger ages when you still go out etc, especially when you have to pay course fee's if you are doing one), unwanted attention from cops and you save money on the actual car itself. Then when your off the P's, go for whatever you want. |

Look at it realistically mate an AU Series one XR8 has 185Kw a BF XR6 has 190Kw judging buy what you have said above you would have me in the Xr6, but it goes harder. I have a mate who is 19 with a VYII SS, no accidents, never come close to one, best teenage driver i know and he isn't an idiot on the streets... My 19 year old step brother drives a V6 1999 Calias, idiot, 2 accidents already and every time out im afraid im going to be in a smash, sideways everywhere he can get it (has to try dangerously hard to do it). Insurance cost is up to me and not for you to worry about, as for group presure, if you have any will power you can say no i do it now and will when im driving. Im not having a go at you and your opinion im just sick of this generalisation that goes on around yournger people at te moment, do i want an AUII XR8 to flog around busy areas no, i ant it for my 1st drag day at calder and for my 1st real track day experience at winton or sandown, im buying it for fun but it doen't mean im going to be a D!ck on the streets either! |

Here's the formula taken straight off the Vicroads site...
Calculating the capacity to weight ratio * Capacity to weight ratio is the capacity in litres divided by the weight in tonnes * Power to weight ratio is the power in kw divided by the weight in tonnes. In doing calculations, weight is specified in tonnes (1000kg = 1 tonne); capacity is specified in litres (1000ml = 1 litre); power is specified in kilowatts (kw) and is measured at the engine flywheel. The weight of a vehicle is the unladen mass specified by the manufacturer for the stock standard vehicle (without options). For example, a V8 vehicle weighs 1382kg with a power rating of 185kw. Therefore, the power to weight ratio is: 185/1382 x 1000 = 130kw per tonne. This vehicle would therefore be considered a high powered vehicle.

I get so many of you older more "mature" guys here in your FPV's and XR's trying to run me etc and because the turbo badge is off, when they hear the turbo start to spool and scream they give greasies etc. I think they are just losers that are upset that at 50 when they get their "dream car" a 20 year old has one as good or better!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Screw the laws. Keep the car looking stock with a monster of a drive train and as long as you don't be a fully sick Mario looking for attention then your right.
What the COPS don't know or don't suspect won't hurt them.

Laws were meant to be broken, thats the way of life in the present times. If your not breaking the law your not living.

You my freind are an immature tosser, who doesn't deserve the right to own such a nice car as you do. I hope to god that a cop pulls you over and books you for every single driving offence in the book, even better I hope an officer just puts a bullit in your head and do society a favour. i see where he (BIGBIRD) is coming from..about the police targeting younger drivers instead of focuisng on the true criminals......however scotty's right the police are there to do there job just like an other employee in society. it just so happens that the P-platers are mislead by police into thinking they are targeted on our roads |

Ok i'm just going to bite my tongue and not join this argument, because i'm going to end up making myself angry and flaming people. But not before saying this: P-platers are watched more closely for a reason, just look at crash/speeding/careless driving stats. Having said that, what i said is a generalisation, as not ALL are like that, but the vast majority are. When on the road, stay out of other people's faces, use a bit of grey matter, and everything would go very smoothly. That is all
I'm out, enjoy the arguing.
