Jobs are being lost everywhere in Australia. It is a sad fact that the cost of doing business in Australia is too high with IR laws, federal taxes, state taxes, work cover costs and laws. Why would anyone bother manufacturing in Australia. You are treated like a criminal and with most state work cover laws you are automatically guilty and can be gaoled unless you prove yourself innocent. All manufacturers are better off importing and not dealing with the grief of local manufacturing.
I am in the process of moving my IT business to Singapore where business is appreciated and encouraged. Do not like it but..... have to. Plenty of other Aussies over here doing the same thing. Amazing comparing the way that the two governments treat business. Full employment in Singapore and a good standard of living, I do my best and buy Australian made where possible (XR6T) but the options are going away. Very annoying as there is/was plenty of talent in Australia. I hope that all of Australia wakes up. |

And Joe Hockey... what a fat useless **** he is. Using Ford's workforce redundancies as a way to push his parties agenda. Low-life. I sir am an Australian. And I do want an Australian car... I just can't afford because I live in one of the most expensive places in the world. Lot's of my money goes to making you even fatter. Quote:

I noticed that the news report on the Today show this morning had a headline that read "Ford shuts Geelong plant". Since when?
Did they get that wrong or was it meant to say "shut for the day". Or did they deliberately do it to make the story seem bigger than it was. |

Please try and keep the politics out of it? Discuss things in a general manner of course based on the topic at hand but keep political views out of it.

Sorry Moderator I realise this takes away from the main core, but I wish to comment. So, the cost of doing business in can be reduced if you take away - "IR laws, federal taxes, state taxes, work cover costs and laws" .. so employers can work employees 18 hours a day, with no safety in the workplace, no protection for loss of employment due to injury in a dangerous workplace..... I like your thinking. " moving my IT business to Singapore where business is appreciated and encouraged." --- Where workers have no rights in the workplace, are treated as lower class slaves. Full employment in Singapore and a good standard of living ... by whose standard? Will you halve the price of your IT product/service after your move to a "lower cost country?" I doubt it. The "Aussie Icon" Bonds didn't after they moved. I had always purchased their Australian made products, but now I think twice, because the products are still the same price .. actually they've gone up. Bond's are an exapmle ... there are others also. Have fun in Singapore. Now ... back to the topic. A sad day indeed. We had warning and knew it was comming. Pleasing that the numbers weren't as high as planned, but still sad for the guys that had to go. Let's hope they find a job soon.

Don't know if anyones mentioned this before, but on the News was the Ford shop steward saying they need a new model to survive past 2016. These latest job cuts are supposedly because the large cars (Falcon & Terry) aren't selling & production is low?
Now, last week I saw a finace report that said people are buying new cars & in the past 12 months, SUV's have been the biggest sellers. Now, what am I missing or what's wrong with this story? If SUV's are the biggest sellers & people are buying new cars, why aren't the Terries running out the doors, with local production high? Is it just some Australian made garbage sentiment, a Ford dislike in General sentiment, are they just priced too high, or is it a total lack of promotion from Ford? Where's the problem lie & what can be done before it's too late. The Rangers are obviously selling well, I'm seeing them all over the place. I'm actually starting to see more Rangers on the roads than Hilux's, but they're not locally made. What's the problem with the local build models? |

In today's materialistic world, people judge by the amount of 'things' are in their car.
'Ohhhh, it's got heated and cooled seats' Unfortunately, Australian made cars don't have 'things' It's just like the 'no permeate' crap that some milk company decided to flog off to the masses. |

My thoughts are with the people that lost their jobs yesterday.
Well done to those who will continue to build the best Aussie made cars, keep the moral high. Long live the Australian made Fords...!

True, I'm sure all here feel for those who have lost their jobs, but isn't it valid to also discuss WHY they have lost their jobs?

If you are so worried about why start a thread about it All you have been in this thread is negative about ford and their ways about things Ford have been up front about it all and put it up for voluntary redundancies and when that didn't get the numbers they had to make the hard choice as to who was to go I would not like to have to make those choices I commend Ford au for the way they handled it all As for product well we just have to wait and see what they come up with in the next few years They have now released that the number of people they have on board is what they believe is the right number for the production/sales they have atm and if it improves then they will look at what to do at that time We all hope for bigger and better times for ford au and the future ( I HOPE will and can only get better ) if the numnutts in the media get off the ford is stuffed side of things and let ford get on with what they are here to do Sorry for my rant spooly but sitting back and seeing some of the comments here make me mad we are supposed to be ford supporters but of late all I see are people like Kiwi bagging them out just irratates me Jason

So if that's the case we shouldn't express our sympathy for those who have lost their jobs either?

I was disappointed with the focus on the negative, how they harped about the large car industry in a dive on one hand then said that 300 000 suv have been sold.I stand $%^^^^ if a falcon is not a better financial investment than an Suv.Further they failed to mention that the eco boost falcon is poles ahead of any opposition in economy and power and size.

To buy a Brand new Mitsubishi ASX. Probably lost $20k in the transaction (selling the Territory for less than she paid, then adding money for the ASX) which could have bought fuel for the rest of her life at the km she travelled. |

Ford PR post on the Forum thereby getting on the front foot sharing information to get there message over to the members on this Forum and some of you are more interested in boosting your post count than contributing within the OP's topic.
If you have question or comment thats not related to the topic use your PM function rather than filling the thread with repeated nonsense. Hers a link that I recommend you read because at times it gets updated. http://www.fordforums.com.au/announcement.php?f=2&a=2

The jacked up Utes are more popular now then the local utes as you can get duel cab versions and they can go more places then the locals. Its funny that the RTV was supposedly cut not to impose on the Ranger. But now they cannot supply enough Rangers. I would like to see an RTV style Falcon ute back. It wouldn't even need a diff lock, just get it to the same height, LSD and get the traction setup for more offroad stuff. Call it a tradesman. Might breath some life in the ute and cause some overtime at Broady.

In Saturday's Geelong advertiser they did an interview with 3 management staff at the plant who claim that when the latest govt handouts run out it will be "all over for them".
........Whatever that means? |
