Its frustrating doing the Club Track days in the BF, sitting on the limiter at 180km/h half way down the straights.....One day before the end of the century Ford may throw the two-piece tailshaft in the XR6 Ute.....
My last three Utes (XR6 Turbo and two XR8's) were fantastic on the track, seeing 220-odd feels so smooth and in control.

I have an 04 BA XR6 and happen to live in the NT, that said, I haven't actually tested the speed limiter personally. I've only taken it for one squirt out the highway to Litchfield, sat on 150-160 and touched 190 on a short straight bit between hills.
Heres what the owners manual says on pg 142. "SPEED LIMITER All sedans except the XR6 Turbo and the XR8 are speed limited to 200 km/h. All wagons are speed limited to 180 km/h. The XR6 Turbo and XR8 are speed limited to 230 km/h"

ok heres an interesting possibility, my bros aqaintences has told him that by removing a fuse in dash it will disable the speed limiter on a ba , i dont know if hes telling porkies, someone might know if this is true or not

There's also the safety issue with the tailshafts. The single piece tailshafts in the likes of the N/A XR6 Utes, and pre BA Utes have the limiter on there to stop the vibration and "popping out" of the shafts. On the track at Sandown a week and a half ago, even sitting on the limiter, I could feel the vibrations. I could have got it removed, but am glad I didn't. The XR6T and XR8 Utes and above have the twin piece tailshaft so they have the 230km/h limiters, like the Sedans.

My BA XR6 was able to hit ~190km/h before hitting the 250metre braking marker on about my 5th flying lap at calder... But damn that was stable. The AUII XR6 I had before it wandered like a madman at 140km/h but settled at 160km/h - didn't have the torque to go higher in the straight.

my car has reached 185 (speedo must be 5km's out) and mine has a limiter of 180, scares the crap outa ya wen it backs off for u, if u hold it down, it jerks the car which is more scary.

My CFI EA got itself to 170kph, i dont have the guts to try anything like that in my V8 XE. Speedo doesnt work anyway, says 145kph @ Real 100kph...

when the speedo reads 100ks, the actual road speed is around 97or 98. therefore road speed = is around 97% of speedo speed. That would = 237
The speedo is only calibrated at 100 for all I know. For the speedo to read that 245 on a 230 limited car, at 93kmh it would read 100kmh. Something wierd going on. |

The speedometer reading is calculated from the rotational velocity of the wheels. If the wheels are bigger then they will cover more distance per rotation so therefore the reading will be low. Why does it read higher? Well maybe politics, we all like to see 200km/h even if we are not actually doing it. Maybe just manufacturing error. The only true way to check your actual speed and speedo is by using an external system. I have 2 GPSs and 2 radars so I am fairly confident of my results. |

I've tried it a few times when I've been trying to catch up to cars that have been quicker on the straights than me and I've had to try and gain back the distance by being one of the last of the late brakers. The brakes don't like it and the back steps out a bit going that deep, if I didn't have to do it I wouldn't do it. |

i had my speedo checked on dyno it was reading 6ks fast at 100k so it will be 12 k`s out at 200 im thinking, i think thats the way it works
