for once I don't mind it. I will wait for the real shots to be published before I get too excited.
The stato leaves me a bit cold but the SS looks kinda nice. |

I'm laughing at anyone that thinks that rear wing is over kill rice way to large. Doesn't anyone seen a FPV or Tickford before?? Big rear wing is to make the rear look bigger longer because of the small boot opening. And maybe to make the front and rear different from the SV6 SS. From other shots the wing isnt that huge, I seen bigger wings on a VX HSV.

if you think it doesnt look like a camry, you need your eyes checked!
I happened to see 2 Aurions the other week out the front of Toyota in Altona, but they were covered in that plastic crap. From what i saw, if i wasnt out the front of Toyota and watching them go out one gate and in another, i would have said it was the VE. I just think the Loyal Holden followers will be a bit let down with the VE from first impressions. |

The white SS looks bad, the camera makes it look like a bad photo chop.
The better shot is this one. It may be the SSV or even the HSV. Note the big wheels, red calipers and big disks. Also the angle makes the car look squat. I don't like the spolier from that angle, but it may look better from road level. |

Why oh why do they persist with those horrid triangle rear lights! Jeez!
They even kept the VT jellybean style roofline! WTF! I have to say I am a bit dissapointed, not as good as people hyped it up to be. |

I don't like it at all. Well the SS that is. The Statesman looks okay though. I will reserve my final judgement till I see the official pics.

The roof line is differnt when you see the 2 in the flesh you will able to tell then, There was a pic of a VYII SV8 in-front of the VE's nothing alike.
Here is the VE with VT both white.

For how many years will Holden stick with the same design themes. They can't do anything original. VY taillights, headlights, Monaro front bumper, Astra grille. I'm thinking i've seen that type of rear spoiler on a tuner built version of the 2000 Mustang too, maybe a Saleen.

It's a bit difficult to judge from those photos.. But from what I see, I like the window glass shape/roof line, the rear and front lights look a bit BAish, and I haven't decided if I like the short boot and long bonnet - but I'm leaning towards liking it.
Oh, and I agree it looks similar to previous models, but why would they take a risk of designing something radical? The majority of the Australian public are too afraid of something different, a la AU.

From a birds eye view, I though straight away - LEGO! But at a ground view, it's alright... It will grow on us... and first impressions are not like the AU at least (Although undisputibly it is now one of the best looking cars around - Not the AU1, the AU3.... lol).
There are simlar appearences to the Camry and the VE, but all cars are really designed in the same shape now days anyways.... Show me the SS in Gloss Black... I might just like it.... I have always liked the Holden design (esp. the VY/VZ HSV kits - don't get me wrong the BA/BF is just as good too), but the front def. does look like an Astra, which really (to me) doesn't scream BIG CAR....

Hmmm, I think I'll reserve final judgment until I see some decent pics, but so far I'm in two minds.
From some angles it looks quite ill-proportioned, but from others it looks quite handsome. It seems to be much more of an evolutionary step, rather than a whole new take on things like the EL-AU was. I think its going to make the VT-VX cars look very, very dated. On a bit of a different note, has anyone else ever thought that Ford should have gone EL-BA-AU in design terms, rather than EL-AU-BA? The BA strikes me as being a backward step from the AU design. The AU was really just too much too soon for the conservative Aussie market. Notice how many cars today are using some of the AU design themes. I saw a mint AUIII XR8 today in dark metallic grey, lowered over 19" rims and I couldn't help but think how fresh it still looks for an eight year old design. I would love an AUIII with BA Turbo running gear, 6 speed ZF, BA Ghia interior and a AU III TS50 bodykit minus the rear wing. mmmmmm, yummy. sorry for getting sidetracked!

Here is a montage of all the photos believed to be SS (or SSV).
You can see the spoiler doesn't look as pronounced as the lastest shots show it. In fact it has gone uncommented until these overhead shots appeared. Also note the overhangs change depending on the angle. The overhead shots don't look good. |

Those extra pics there are not helping at all...that is one sorry rear end.
Its one thing using a corporate image, but another to just rehash ideas. So far the VE is as big of a let down as the Da Vinchi code.

Looks like Holden liked the BA front so much that they put it on the VE!

From those pics, that has to be one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen. Especially the SS... absolutley grotesque. VT-VZ are far better lookers then VE.
Dare I say, the VE is the next AU.

Here are my thoughts.
My initial reaction was that I like it. But I dont think that its changed much. I do remember though that VT was a fatter and sleeker version of VS though, so evolution rather than full changing of shape and a clean slate is, I guess, Holdens style. Hey, good on em! It worked with VS-VT-VX (Where Ford failed with EL-AU using the oppisite strategy). So I'm guessing we won't see VE Commodore being shunned. To me, the front and back are largeley similar to VY VZ. The only thing now is that the midsection has lost its chubby, fat, 1997-esque' roundness, to become more angled and modern. The midsection of the car now complements front and back, rather than VZ's clumsy round middle with sharp ends. Frontal Treatment looks like an R34 GTR (Don't know if anyone agrees but it was what I thought from the original Com gen shots we got on Go Auto a couple months back). Wheel arches look good, rear wing maybe a little big. Kind of looks like a Dick Smith Remote Control Car! The Stato's look very classy, I actually like the front on them, almost like a caddilac with a Mercedes Benz S-Class road presence, If Ford dont try to make a go out of a Fairlane Variant out of Orion, then they should kick themselves. Fairlane has such a long history. This new stato looks good. I have every confidence that Orion will build on the successes and failures that are generated from this Holden model. They have a year and a half to carefully document what happens here with VE, and implement whatever strategies they beleive will make Orion a sales leader. Good luck to them! And good luck to Holden. |
