Interesting discussion indeed!

Australia was indeed founded on the Laws of England, whose laws in principle are based on the commandments found in the Bible.

Laws change and our laws have strayed from that book which contains much wisdom.

Political correctness has darn near killed off free speech in this country; a crying shame.

2 Christian pastors have been put through the ringer by VCAT, because of stupid laws passed in Victoria. They were holding a seminar on Islam and the Christian response to it.

A few Muslim people attended, took offence, complained to VCAT, these pastors have spent 2 years and 100's of thousands of dollars defending their position.

Last week their appeal was upheld. The result you ask? WAS THE CASE DROPPED? NO!

It goes back to trial again.

Political correctness gone crazy IMO.

When I was at uni, the girls were given cards (sexual harrassment cards). If a guy found one in his books, bag etc, he knew he'd been reported for sexual harrassment.

Us guys loved chatting to the girls, but were mindful that we could just be talking to a girl, and if she felt harrassed in any way, regardless of the intention of the bloke, he'd be in strife.

In the past, someone walking along the footpath, stubs their toe. Says to himself, "that was silly of me!" Now, councils get sued for the same thing!

How many ads on TV appear to make blokes look like idiots, and women look smarter (just watch a few ads and you'll get the theme)? You couldn't do that to women on ads. PC strikes again.

Julia Gillard is 2nd in charge of Federal Labour Party, gets bagged for not going for the top job. Wasn't bagged by a bloke of course, too PC. It was a feminist writer in the Herald Sun. Big deal, so what, she's deputy. Why couldn't that be celebrated?

Schools all over this country aren't permitted nativity scenes and typical Christmas activities in case people of other religions are offended. For goodness sake!

In most government schools, no photos are allowed to be taken at sporting events, due to privacy concerns!

PC has gone crazy.

YES, I am a Christian, proud of it.
YES, I am Australian, proud of it.
YES, I am concerned with how freedom of speech is slowly but surely being eroded in our country.

I hope others get the gist of what I've been saying, and feel the same way. If you don't, hey that's cool, it's a free democratic country with free speech! LOL!

ISN'T IT?

A last word. Merry Christmas, God bless you all!

This thread is quite a coincidence, because I watched the latest American Dad episode two days ago, and it was about Stan getting worked up about people saying "Happy Holiday". This is basically the exact same situation

aah, funny thing this,
all christmas means to me is a day off and a chance to catch up with family for our annual argument.
as for religion, i personally couldnt care what people are, i just hate it when the mormon/bretheran try to convert me while im at work or on a sunday morning when im still smashed...
what else annoys me about it is the people that are blind believers in it, as in 'dont worry, god will look after me' or that it is a law unto itself.
but meh, im too lazy and tired to care atm, theres more to life than worrying about others.
merry xmas and i hope santa is good to everyone, i'll have another drink for all of ya's.

**** I hate people ruining christmas. What would Jebus do?!

But seriously... Some people just need to get into the real world and on with life a bit I think. I'm agnostic but i'm not gonna complain about petty things like this.

One of my biggest fears is when religion creeps into politics. We are seeing a slight move towards this in Australia. But if you want a read that takes a while and really you should read it twice, read this:

http://www.niemanwatchdog.org/index....groundid=00114

It will move a few world events into a perspective that may worry you. I know that is worried me a little. But you cant believe everything that you read on the web. But this is one of those that should nt be dissmissed out of hand.

Cheers all.

What i hate?

I work in customer service, speaking to 100's every week. This wekk however I am not allowed to wish any client a Merry Christmas. I can reply with "Thanks, you too". due to people finding it an offence, we had a 'end of year party' not a Christmas party.

Whether it is for a break or religion or a family get together, Christmas should be enjoyed by all, with each person using it in their way, not finding a reason to dislike it.

This is what the world has come to!

Some people are really petty these days. How could anyone seriously be that arsed to reply like that?

I agree with TonkoXR8.

As for religion, I follow none. To me it's a whole load of crap that does nothing other than cause crap. Again my personal belief.

"Happy holiday season", "Merry Christmas", "Happy get plastered and pig out day", I couldn't care less what it is called.

The problem is, someone assumes the Christians own Christmas. This isnt the case. Christmas®™ is now owned in a joint venture by Hallmark and Coca Cola.

So theres no need for other religions to be offended by Christmas®™ anymore! Its now a purely corporate event with zero religious connotations, and now with zero carbs and extra red colouring!!

This has been a paid advertisement for Christmas®™, we now return you to your regular programming.

We may not agree on a few things, but that's the most sensible thing ive read in this thread!

I'll drink to that - Merry Christmas.

Um, dare i refer you to the mayor of Sydney in 04 or 05, where she refused to put up christmad deccos for fear of offending someone- i mean in the capital of AUSTRALIA. She's a bit crazy, granted, but thats PC gone mad.

Its best to beleive and worship in all available religions. Spread your bets across the board for better odds because when its time to go, wouldn't you really kick yourself if you picked the wrong one and they wouldnt let you in!

Hard when you have to wear so many little hats all at once. I love Christmas!......I get holidays!

Wow....this has really sturred things up.....he he he....I thought it might but sheeesh.

When ever people get up on their high horse about being PC or whatever I just smile and thank my lucky stars that I live in a free, tolerant country where these kind of things can be expressed by the population without fear of getting a knock on the door at 3 in the morning from someone in authority with a warrant for your arrest.

I can't believe Coca Cola pretty much created the Santa we see today.. Pretty sad ey? The image of the most well known and loved fictional character today was created by a 'soda' company.
