Did the same thing today and the wife here wants one too. Veloster Plus in manual, just not sure what colour yet.

Saw one the other day on the Sunshine Coast, parked next to a new gen Mazda 3 hatch. Boy did it make the Mazda look dated! It was a brown colour though which looked aweful. But, it has some real road presence about it, that's for sure.

I read that the turbo version of this will have a twin scroll turbo as well, should be a pretty sweet machine. I believe Kia will be using this turbo engine soon as well.

Manual box gets the most out of the small engine.

All in all a great looking car, with a great list of standard features at a great price. I would absolutely get one for the GF.

Might look okay, but it will still be a fairly boring car to drive and no matter how far Hyundai has come, the cheapness is still evident on many parts of the car.

Namely steering and handling. I don't know how difficult it is to achieve, as I don't develop cars for a living, but why can't Korean manufacturers deliver precise and feelsome steering in any of their cars?

Because their steering and suspension engineers aren't any good, and they fit the cheapest Korean tyres they can get.

Story goes that a lot of the Korean manufacturers suspension and steering engineers don't even have licences to drive either.

Been snooping around the Hyundai dealership and while waiting about an inquiry on another car had a look at the Veloster.
Black one they had there had shocking orange peel.
Not a fan of the dash layout but its got alot of features.
Wouldnt buy on if the back seat was regulary used for passengers.
Rear vision out of the glass would be a problem

Salesman said they had sold about 7 of them, and expect the turbo model to show up here from October onwards.

It been reported a few times that I have seen, so i'd take it as thruth. Wheels magazine for one. They couldn't believe it either until they went to Hyundais proving ground.

I bought one, it certainly doesn't have much power, but handles very well, is well specced, and turns heads more than any other car I've driven or owned.
Gets about 7l/100kms over the first 1000kms.

I saw an older (retired) couple buying one at a Hyundai dealer 2 weekends ago. Seems to be a car that appeals to many demographics.

It is a wealthy country (one of VERY few 'first world' Asian countries), where most adults drive newish cars. I find it odd that a Billion dollar car company thats trying to be number 1 would emply people as you describe.

The cheapest tyres?? Is that because they are also Korean? I guess they must be like the Chinese manufacturers and products... right?? I mean... same neck of the woods, sorta look the same....

Anyone who has been to Korea and China (as I have) will know what I'm getting at...

South Korea is certainly a country on the move.
Many people can't let go of the "cheap Korean crap" way of thinking, look at Samsung and now Hyundai, moving very fast in the right (up) direction.
Hyundai are supposedly the only car manufacturer with their own steel refinery, they flew Sachs engineers to Australia for the unique Veloster suspension tune (even has monotubes on the rear), so I find the story about unlicensed suspension experts as highly unlikely.
The Hankooks on my Veloster certainly don't lack for grip in any situation (better than the Dunlops fitted to my many previous Falcons).
Only 12 months ago I would NEVER have owned a Hyundai, how times change.

Interesting that I havent been on here for months and this is the first thread that popped up. I work in Hyundai pre delivery. Everyone (20+ people) and myself included all saying the same thing. It drives like crap and is extremely slow. Took it on about a 5km test drive and yeah, its rubbish guys. Looks cool though.

previous experience with my old SP23 was for the first 15 000km it was rather slow. after it had been sufficiently thrashed for that time it started to open up. it had 123kw and 250nm ish, and weighs in a bit more than the veloster.

mine was a 5spd auto, so i must say the manual would make better use of the limited power on tap.

i sold my SP23 because it was too slow lol, but i seriously SERIOUSLY miss that car. the BF mkII Ghia i traded it for was indeed alot quicker, but **** it was thirsty. 17L/100km thirsty.

now i have an MPS, and guess what, its a pig to drive (albiet its fast) and its also thirsty! hahahaha

i would consider one of these with a hairdryer attached. i would also look at a FT86. pity my finance company would have a heart attack lol!

Doesn't really surprise me. I wonder what those who rave about this car's handling drive daily. It certainly wouldn't be anything like a Fiesta or LR-LV Focus.

Does your boss know you thrash the **** out of their cars before customers buy them on your "test drives"? What dealership do you work at? Might give them a little call.
