Default sorry, wrong number..

been getting a few funny 'wrong numbers' over the last few weeks, all after the same person/people..
started with a young woman calling, went something like "hello?" "Hi my name is (insert name here), I'd like to get a stripper for my sisters hens night" "errr fair enough, but you've called the wrong number" "oh crap".. she then hung up.
so anyway I've been getting numerous calls for strippers and escorts..
got another one yesterday, "hello?" "hey, I'd like to hire some topless waitresses.." "sorry mate, wrong number" before he hung up i asked what number he was after, and where he got it, as i was beginning to think someone had advertised with the wrong number..
turns out the number for the 'club' that advertises in the phone book has the number 04XX 94440X, and mine is 04XX 99440X..

so i'm thinking I've found a new way to pay for go-fast bits :hihi:

anyone else recieved any humourous wrong numbers?

I used to get calls from people wanting to book a squash court. My number was listed in the Qld Squash Assoc (or whatever it was) as the local court's number.

The management weren't interested when I let them know about the stuff-up, and I kept getting calls for bookings - and I got tired of passing on the correct number.

That all changed, when I started to accept bookings!

Not wrong call but something nearly as funny
When hubby was working in Sydney few years back, he moved into a unit behind Lunar Park, had screen & intercom so you could see who wanted to enter building etc. Took a few gentleman visitors at all hours of the night, before we realised what was happening - Turned out the unit used to be a Brothel!

I was getting a few messages for a "candice" in Victoria. She was handing out the wrong number. I even had a message for her from Fernwood @ Mornington, telling me that I was welcome back after a "power outage". Ended up speaking to one of her friends who left a message, and they stopped shortly after that.

my wife has had her phone no for 4 yrs or so and she still gets calls for silvia, usually from insurance people or solicitors and none of them will believe that this isnt silvia's number.
they never ring when i am around though. ive called back the people who leave messages but they dont believe us.
who ever silvia is she must be dodgy.

We've got the same problem except our number is similar to the councils, mostly dosen't bother us as it's during business hours. The wife answered the phone last weekend to a tirade about "your sewerage is flowing through my backyard"

My wife received a phone call from a woman not too long ago to her mobile .... she told her politely she had rung the wrong number ... the woman who rang decided to give my wife an earfull tell her she is liar and whatnot.

Mind you my wife has had her number for 5 years now ... it hasn't changed.

Going by the number that called it was some booey from Penriff ... if she rang again I had their number to pass onto Telstra if needed (as as my wife's account is with them).

No use in arguing with them ... you just hang up on them in the end.

My Grandparents' had a similar number to Toys R Us nearby, and would get calls about lay-by's people had, or asking about certain toys.

Last night we had someone call about 4 times and hang up when Mum or I answered. When I finally cracked it and said "Are you going to talk to me or not?", a woman asked for my Dad, to enquire about a bus (yes, we do own a bus company). I took her number and she hung up. She was quite rude, so I never bothered to pass the number on.

I've had a few calls for Russell (obviously idiots looking in the phone book for a well know Aussie actor/footy team owner), since Dad's name is Richard, and we have a similar last name (then there is my uncle Robert, and his son Robert Jr., so I would guess they get the same calls too)

And when I was about 11 I was sitting watching the after school programs one day when the home phone rang. So I answered and said "hello?"
Then got abused by some woman that the way I answer the phone isn't very professional, and do I always answer the phone that way. I had no idea what she was on about, so I told her that I did indeed answer the phone that way all the time when I was sitting on the lounge at home watching tv after school.
She shut up, but didn't apologise, and hung up.
She called back a few minutes later, and we figured out that she was trying to call our bus depot, but someone had forgotten to take the phones off divert when they got into the office, so she was calling the correct number, but she was still getting me.
I called the depot and got it fixed, and she eventually got through to the secretary.

Around 18 years ago, my cousin was living in Brunswick. One of the local Lebanese restaurants at one stage had the same phone number and had later changed it. Soon after shifting in he was getting phone calls for that restaurant. He took a walk along Sydney Rd and found the place, and to his surprise, they still had the old phone number painted on the top of the place.

He used to get really angry with all of the phone calls and would just tell people that they had the wrong number and hang up. I thought that this was too good an opportunity to waste so when the phone rang, we put on an accent and took their orders and reservations. :hihi:

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when all of these people kept turning up for their reserved tables and take away when they didn’t exist.

Being a teacher I decided to get a slient number. My dad has the same name as me and his number is in the book so he gets all the prank calls, serves him right for giving me his name.

Thats funny, I work in car insurance and we must have a number very similar to centre links phone number because we are always getting calls that start something like "My boyfriend has moved in"
First time it happened I was unaware and said "mmmhmm, ok, and has he hit your car or had an accident?" and the woman has gone "huh?!?!"
LOL

i have to admit i was a little **** when i was younger. we used to open the phone book and read a name (EG: smith) and we would ring reverse charge and not say a name (so they accept incase its an emergency) and if a male picked up we would ask for mrs smith and when he went to go get he we would hand up ****ing ourselves laughing hahahaha...

now i look back it was cruel... but telstra would have loved us
