Default Which brands of cars are involved in more accidents

On channel nine news here in Brisbane tonight there was something on there about a study that was done about which brands of cars are involved in more accidents. The study has found people who have cars in the $50 - $100 grand price range are likely to be in an accident. They also found that people that buy high powered holdens are more likely to be in single vehicle accidents where speed was most likely a factor. There was no mention of Ford.

Now should they find out if there is a particular type of person that buys the Holden and should Holden make there car safer for those people or is there something else wrong with the Holdens. As for the prestige car they say they think that the people who own them are either more nervous behind the wheel or they are to relaxed because they think they have enough money to cover any damage

That's interesting, I wonder where those facts come from. If anything I'd say more cars under $5000 are likely to smash.

Nah, they make other people have accidents and drive away from the scene in their own semi-dazed little world.

LOL, and usually with their seats so far forward that their faces are pressed up to the windshield.

There is nothing wrong with a Holden. The drivers are the problem. They all want to be like Mark Skaife, and like Mark Skaife, if anything goes wrong, they blame somebody else.

Camrys, Cressidas and Crowns are to the road what motorised carts are to footpaths.

They are the cars owners less likely to have insurance which is most likely where these very loosely examined stats come from. Its more an age bracket thing and from that, you can extrapulate the type of vehicles.

ie 18-25 year olds represent 25% of the accidents - Commodores, Falcons, Hondas, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota sportie type buzzboxes. Your typical 18-25y/o vehicle.

Young urban professionals aged 22-35, on a single income earning between 35k and 55k who smoke and live within 15k of a major city with brown hair represent 14% of accidents - Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Patrol, XR8, XR6 or Falcon Ute. :eclipsee_

Sounds like a complete wast of time to me, I can't believe people get paid to research crap like this.

"high powered holdens are more likely to be in single vehicle accidents where speed was most likely a factor" Not standing up for Holden drivers, But you don't have to be Speeding for speed to be a factor, you can be doing the Speed limit and Speed could still be one of the 100 factor's that caused the crash.

Green X, so true my friend!

But going on with what was gathered in the first post, I must add that it is not the CAR that makes the accident, but the PERSON controlling the car. Doesn't matter if they are driving a $900,000 supreme sports car or $2000 hunk of junk. The reason why people call accidents, 'accidents' is just that. Nobody had the intention of crashing.

Its like saying, me buying an $80 Adidas shirt, and accidentally bumping into a guy with a $5 'lowes' shirt. It doesn't mean he is more careless, or im too relaxed or what ever lol (no offense though man, seriously, I dont want to offend anybody). Its just an accident. Yes maybe you could have 'prevented' it, but it doesn't mean your car (shirt) helped you in that... Man, hopefully my post came out clear!

Peace

The study is pretty meaningless unless its reported on a per capita basis which I don't think it is. For instance there are more Holdens on the road than anything else hence more accidents. I don't believe the crap about $50K to $100K cars in more accidents, everytime I see a smash it is some shite box - they probably got their figures from insurers and guess what - shite boxes are likely to be uninsured and drive off from the scene. I read somewhere that wet days make up 15% of all days in a year in NSW yet account for 40% of accidents.

Exactly. A more pertinent study would be of the number of drive offs after an accident, as well as the number of people who don't have insurance. Why they won't legislate third party property as part of the registration procedure is beyond me, especially when we're all paying for these losers through higher premiums.
