hope they can get it off ok.

( makes getting our work trucks -landcruiser + hino EWP cherry picker truck- out of the bog tomorrow look like an easy job :eclipsee_ )

yeh,we move 20-30ton machine parts around and we think its a big move,I would love to have been a part of this team........................... or maybe not,it would be cold there.

looks to have moved a bit, the tide is on the way out by now. They may be able to get it off after all???????????

Seems to be pivoting on the stern, the bottom would be taking a punishment. Note the Nobbys light reflection flashing on the starbord side and how she swings when hit by a big wave. Hope they get good offshore winds. Peak tides are getting higher over next couple of nights, so fingers crossed.

yeah ..the camera was looking straight at the front of it before and now you can see more lights down left side and non on the right side.

what time is/was the highest tide?

Peak tide in Newcastle was at 18:51 @1.75m and will increase to a king peak of 1.88m @ 21.35 on Monday then starts getting smaller from there, so if they are going to do it that is the best chance :

Do you think they've repositioned the webcam? It's hard to tell where the ship is in relation to its former position - seems to be closer to the camera. I suppose daylight will help.

Edit: kempster1, they did have a line on the bow but it broke.

ive been watching for quite some time and they zoomed the camera in and over time you could see the stages of movement/turning accross the front

no, not the case at all adam, the reason it was moving around a lot last night was one of the anchor cables anchoring it steady snapped, and the waves were buffeting it, now, with a new anchor cable, its steady again

you can see in the cctv now, that its moving around just a little bit, but held nice and steady.....last night it was moving about 5 - 10 meters each time it got hit

More view of the portside tonight - wonder if they have managed to swing the stern out or the bow is back to starbord again? I would say the bow is easy to float being the light end. The stern would be sitting on rock. Now if they could lift the engine out....!

Apparently 3 cables snapped... 2 off the tugs and 1 sea anchor. One of the tug cables was repaired today and the other 2 will be done tomorrow. Well thats what the local radio is saying anyways.

This is hilarious to say the least . I said to my misses as soon as they started saying that it would be off in a week "they don't make cables strong enough to tow it off" . Have a go at the size of those cables it's like trying to tow you're car with a small nylon rope lol . If they do get it off it will be down to luck more than good management .

I reckon they need to install some copperlogs to stop boats from parking on beaches. Like the ones they have in car parks. Of course it will have to be about 50 metres high. But in theory, it could work.

The only way they will move that thing is to dredge underneath it till lts floating and while they are at it, do a channel back out to sea . But no, these brain surgeons have to dick around for weeks trying to tow a "MACK" truck with a couple of lenghts of dental floss !

i've been in the shipping industry for years and my 1st thoughts was this is the way to go . you'd think with all the shipping engineers and builders, and designers around the world , they would have someone smart enough to come up with a better idea than trying to drag the farken thing . it will break up if they actually were capable of dragging it .

The only problem with trying to dredge under the boat to try and float it is under the sand is rock and reef.

The way I look at it they either use a oxy and angle grinder and take it away in pieces OR fill the bottom of the hull to about 3-2 m above the water line with concrete and turn the thing into a high class hotel/restaurant with 360’ water views, and a new tourist attraction for Newcastle. : : :

Trying to drag the boat sideways over the sand bar built up along the side is going to be impossible, and those cables they are using??? Well might as well be telecom rope.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Honestly if they do manage to move it, the stress will be enough to rip it apart. Do they realise as they are pulling on the cables the ship is actually sinking even further into the sand. Think about it, the cables are running down to the salvage tugs, as the tugs pull, it is putting downforce on the hull. Thats my theory anyways.
