hi guys i want to check my car out as it is limp mode so i went and got a multimeter and was wondering what settings it should be on to check for the codes.

multimeters can't check codes.

i just had a look cause i remembered that my temp guage was not indicating temperature.well it was broken and just hanging on at the connection so ive ordered a new one and hopefully this will be the prob

You can indeed use the multimeter provided it is not digital or if it is digital also has an analog style bar display as well/ See:

could the water temp ender cause limp mode?
