My cigarette lighter isn't working which doesn't really effect me because i don't smoke, but i need to charge my phone while in the car and i was looking at the possibility of buying a gps. I haven't tried to use it until recently so I'm not sure how long it's been on the fritz.
what should i be looking at? Is there a specific fuse for the lighter (I doubt it) or does the whole thing have to be pulled out and replaced? Thanks. |

I'd grab a multimeter and test for power with the ignition on... then check all your fuses just incase. It could be as simple as just a wire fell off.

Yeh check for power first at socket then all fuses, if still no go i would be removing the socket you will find on the back of it a looped wire ( fusable link ) 99% of the time that burns out. Wont be able to see it burnt but the wire within it will be burnt. cheers mick

Sometimes the end part of the lighter can come off inside the socket if it were me i'd check that first if it is in there .
You should be able to remove it with a screwdriver if that is the problem. Check the fuse it is a blue 15 amp one if its blown make sure you replace with same amp/colour. It is the fourth fuse from the lefthand side on the top row which goes 10,15,5,15 (this is the one) If those instructions don't confuse you nothing will Good luck with it.

I had the same problem 2 weeks ago. When the gas was installed and the radio etc had to come out so that the dual fuel switch could be installed, the cig lighter wire was not re connected. You can get your hand in behind from the right hand side, and feel for any lose wires. Otherwise check the fuse. Little fiddly but do-able

I checked the fuse and it's fine.
I can't quite get my hand behind the centre console, so i can't tell if anything is loose. How do i go about removing the socket through the front? |

Excellent post, noticed yesterday the one in my Territorys rear cosole and the one right down the back dont work but the one in the dash does. Both the non working ones are getting power but didnt realise that was a fusible link on them. I guess its time for a couple of new sockets. Thank you for the excellent info
