Hi.

Went to Ultra Tune yesterday and they have given me a list of things that needed to be fixed costing around $1000, so i thought I'd knock some of the stuff on the list myself. I've got a couple of questions and would greatly appreciate any help.

1. What type and brand of brake pads should i be looking for. I need them just for normal driving and don't want a lot of dust. I've heard the Bendix Ultimates are harsh on the discs.

While changing the pads i also want to flush the brake fluid. How do i go about doing this properly, and how much brake fluid will i need to buy.

2. What coolant should i use and how much does the falcon take. Also how can i do a full flush of the system so that i can get most of it out. I've read another thread where someone has only been able to get 5L out.

Bendix Ultimates are damned good pads but you are right they will chew through a set of rotors in no time. Id probably go Bendix Advance or GCT, I have Advance on the ute now (mine are not stock brakes though), and wouldnt mind moving up to the GCTs as I am not kind to my brakes. Set of GCT's for the front should cost you no more than $60.

Coolant - go for a concentrate and mix it yourself, to flush just keep it going until all the coolant comes out and youre only getting clean water. From memory the 6cyl system holds 8 litres but I can check that @ work tomorrow.

1. I'm currently running Bendix GCT's. Works well from cold, no squeaks, no noises, a little bit of dust, not excessively so, but doesn't chew out rotors. Brake fluid - 0.5 litres of DOT 4.

2. Coolant refill capacity is actually 16 litres for the sixes.
