Default Which wheels?

Hi All,

Lame thread I know, but help me decide!

(Ignore the fact that I'm missing a centre cap on the BA XR's, I'm picking that up tomorrow)

Personally I like the XR mags, and no bias in my decision

Thanks guys, I liked the Ghia's too, but the Mrs definitely prefers the XR's.

Lowering plans? Definitely. I'll probably do it the semi-dodgy way with blocks though, I'm pretty sure I've got front springs somewhere for it!

XR's for mine, especially if you're going to lower it. The Ghia's look a little 'busy', if that makes sense.

No worries Wayne, if I do I'll give you a yell! They'll be uber cheap as they are a bit rashed on nearly every wheel, but at least it's a set of 5.

XRs by a nose for me.

If you use lowering block, just remember that you can't use anything bigger than 38mm (1.5") otherwise the lower shock mount WILL hit the inside of the rim - oh, and you need 17 x 8s at a minimum too - 16s (, oh, and any rim wider than 8") and lowering blocks on an AU don't mix.

Damn. Thanks for saving me finding out the hard way though JC!
I was hoping to go 2" really, so I guess I'll have to get mine reset, or get some King's SL leaves.

Trust me - 38mm is heaps. It doesn't sound like it, but it is. Fitting them will actually drop the car by nearly 2". Don't ask how - I don't know, but measurements don't lie. Remember the black wagon I had? It had 38mm lowering blocks in the rear and it started at around 710mm, and ended up somehow sitting at around 660mm from ground to guard lip (IIRC) - which is about XR height. At $80 odd, they are a lot cheaper than the $250 supply or $450 fitted for reset or King SL leaves.

I'd give the lowering blocks a go first - you may be surprised at good it turns out, and you still get full factory suspension movement.

Cool! If I go lows/XR height springs at the front, hopefully this should have it sitting level, rather than the *** up tow pack look I've got happening now!

I'm more after a level height, rather than actually going ridiculously low.

Where did you get your blocks from JC?

I got mine through Centrepoint Steering and suspension - they were a whiteline kit (part# KLB61-1), but lovells (Kit# LBF-38C) also have them. They are listed at $110 now (I got mine a few years ago for $80)

Ok ok, go with me here. Saw it once on a track-specific BMW. And it didn't look too bad.

The XR set on the L side and the Ghia set on the R side. Two different looks on the same car.

Not everyones cup of tea, but another idea none-the-less.

Hehe, saw the same thing on some hectik kebab mobile at Autosalon a few years back. IIRC it was some insanely modified and totally rancid Suzuki Swift GTi

I already tried that idea by the way when I threw them on just to see which looked better, but I couldn't decide.

Did find out today that the XR's are like a million times easier to clean, and considering how much time I spend cleaning this car (at least once every 6 months!) this is a major consideration!

Everytime I get rims for a car that are fairly intricate, I kick myself for doing it later as they're always a bugger to clean - yet I manage to do it over and over again!

^^^^^Agreed - the BF XR's are definitely the pick, but I only grabbed these as they were dirt cheap, a set of 5 all in good nick, and with 6 new tyres! Couldn't really say no!
