Hi everyone,
I was at the servo with my old boy today and his Au Ute 6cy started and almost died instantly. It did this atleast 10 times, 1 of the times i heard clunk and also everytime it died it mad this weird griding like sound. I slid the t bar up and down a number of times and it started, Im thinking Fuel Pump or start motor whats everyones thought's ! It has happened to him a few times before but just goes away by itself. Regards, Woody :

i'd give the idle speed control motor and the throttle body a clean if you haven't yet. i was having some similar issues, mainly with cold starts. the last time i cleaned them i used brake cleaner instead of carby cleaner and it worked a lot better, haven't had any issues since. i doused the isc motor in it then blew it out with compressed air

Craig, if you said it started when moving the tbar up and down a few times, I'd be checking the inhibitor switch.

It's the neutral safety switch so the car won't start when in park.

Thanks Dan, is that located under the t bar.
Also when the car fired up times after it started and the griding sounds then faintly went away.

the inhibitor switch is the white box hanging off the side of your transmission

If it's starting, but then shutting down, it's not the inhibitor switch. If it's cranking but not starting, it's still not the inhibitor switch. If it's not cranking at all when in P or N, THEN it's the inhibitor switch.
Cranking and not starting is either a fuel issue, or a spark issue. I would be checking fuel filter and plugs and leads first, then working my way through the fuel system and the spark system (coil packs etc). If it's starting and stalling, it could be ISC, but it could also be a massive vacuum leak somewhere. It could also still be plugs, leads, fuel filter etc.

for a 6 banger ... chamelion paid about $110 from supercheap
anywhere from there to $160 he was quoted by the various spare parts shops depends if its S1 or S2 as well as the connectors are different (one is male one is female)

Here's one for sale on eBay, I don't know if it's the same model as your Dad's, but an inquiry wouldn't hurt for the price it is. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-AU-II-Ig...QQcmdZViewItem |
