Surprised the pursuit cars in WA don't have bullbars, not that I think it would have mattered in that instance.

Did the roo make it?

I've been doing a few country runs and so far have seen 2 roos at once dart infront of me hit the gravel and then try and get traction and head for the other side of the road. If one does decide to jump infront of me though there is no way i'd be swerving thats for sure.

The absolute best thing to do if a roo jumps out in front of you is to threshold brake and hit it. Swerving can get you in all kinds of dramas.

Wombats and wallaby's hit even harder then that, they make a huge mess.

Best thing to do if one jumps out in front of you is hit the skids as hard as u can while maintaining control and keeping it straight.

I wonder if the conversation went anything like this? :hihi:

HWP..........HWP 4 to base, over.
BASE.........Base receiving.
HWP..........I’ve hit one of the locals, over.
BASE.........Agggh, not again. Is it a fatality?
HWP..........Affirmative.
BASE.........Any witnesses? Over.
HWP..........Negative on that.
BASE.........Much damage?
HWP..........Metal damage, brain damage.
BASE.........You’ve got to stop watching Mad Max, over.
HWP..........What do you want me to do?
BASE.........Try and clean up the body and make it look like an accident before one of the elders finds out.
HWP..........What? I think that you’ve misunderstood my transmission. I’ve actually clobbered a kangaroo.
BASE.........Oh, that’s a change. How far did you have to go off the road before you got him?
HWP..........I didn’t this time. He actually jumped out in front of me while I was driving on the bitumen.
BASE.........Bull***t… really?
HWP..........Affirmative.
BASE.........That’ll make the paperwork easy for a change.
BASE…….....It’s a shame. That car only had three days to go before retirement.

You're not wrong there.
If anyone on here has the ability to predict what a kangaroo will do when sitting in a tabledrain, I'm all ears.
And I'm sure most of the large insurance companies would like to know the secret too.

Anyway....
It sure did make a mess of that Falcon.
I've hit a few in my time, and most you don't even have time to react.

Easy way to write a car off... Swerve to miss a kangaroo. Saw a few go that way while in the NT.

You think a roo is bad, you want to try hitting a horse! the front of the car takes out their legs, and then they fall over straight into the windscreen. You go from 100 ks to zero with a horse in your face. not a pretty sight for the cops and ambos to clean up.

I can't help you with predicting their behaviour, but I can tell you that a kangaroo hears you coming a LONG way off, gets used to the droooooonnnnnneee and goes back to eating. It's when you see him/them and suddenly back of the gas that the drooooonnnnneee changes and alerts the kangaroo to a possible threat, greatly increasing the chance it will bolt in a random direction.

SO, keep driving at the same speed and you are less likely to share your cabin with a roo!

generally, if they aren't moving, they will stay still. its the ones on the move you worry about.

if i see roo/roos i'll always slow down. i'd rather hit one at 80 or so than 110.

I’m working on a machine to detect this very thing. It will be finished about the same time as the one that can predict how crazy my mssus’ mood swings will be at that time of the month.

I’ll let you know how successful it is.

While you're at it, a machine that can predict lotto numbers would be nice as well.

I've got a mood ring that does just that.

When she is in a good mood, its green. When she is in a bad mood it leaves a red mark on my forehead.

That’s an easy one. Some people actually pick numbers and win. Understanding the mind of a female human and a kangaroo are far more difficult.
