I would love to hear an explanation on why (all of a sudden) diesel has become cheaper than petrol.
I run a truck for a living and was used to seeing diesel being up to and over 30 cents per litre more than petrol. Today i paid $1.15 cpl for diesel and the ulp on the next pump was $1.21 cpl. The reason I was told then was "Diesel is more expensive to manufacture than petrol" Now why the change, have they suddenly found a cheaper way overnight to manufacture diesel, or where the oil companies having a lend of us all this time ?

But im sure loveing it now. 3000 litres a month when it was at $1.75+ took about 10 years off my life. Hopefully i regain them now. |

Happening here in nsw too, not because the fuel went down, all becuase their is not enough work for every mud carter so everybody is prostituting the rates to get the work.
Not good at all but thats part of the game. I would still like to see SUB $1.00L |

It will also throw some doubt on peoples purchasing a diesel car too, up until recently it was cheaper to buy and run a petrol car over the diesel version, ie Volkswagen Golf.
Now what ? The tables have turned yet again, but for how long ?

supply and demand fellas. Diesel is primarily used by industry, and in the current economic climate, industry is down. So petrol as a consumer fuel is largely unaffected (bit of a price drop due to oil) but diseasel is down big time. Supply and demand boys.

It could be that diesel car sales went up around mid 06-07 too. That holden captiva flooded ads everywhere about how economical their diesel is. Most others were euro imports so the aus govt mabye wanted to turn away potential new car diesel buyers back to local built petrol cars by lifting Diesel price They cant fluctuate the price higher again now, they will have to deal with angry truck drivers and tight-*** diesel golf drivers. I reckon it will go down to around 1.05-1.15/L ***Mrhardware*** If its supply and demand, why is it and always has been cheaper in euro and india? Last edited by GK351; 05-02-2009 at 10:16 PM. |

because we're being ripped off with ULP, it should be about 90 something cents, making it cheaper than diesel.
When we asked the operator at Caltex why it was cheaper they didn't have a clue. |

Looks like I will be home and hosed with the Hdi that I recently purchased. It was still cheaper to run than a petrol car when diesel was 30 cents per litre dearer.

Diesel is cheaper to manufacture than petrol. Diesel does not require to be refined as much as petrol. The Govt has an exise/taxes on diesel that are different to petrol..that's why we cop it up the A!@#.
Just remember years ago when diesel was half the price of petrol. When diesel vehicle technolgy improved and more vehicles were being sold, the Govt had to cash in.
