well... i just want to know the sort of machining involved in converting the stock borg warner diff to a skyline Limited slip disk brake diff. and if i have to run bigger than 13" wheels

Pintara 86-88 diff gears(4.11).14 inch wheels minimum.Get hold of a used LSD centre and rebuild it.standard R31 axles(skyline)are 28 spline :.the ford LSD additive is by far the best for long life.I presume where starting with a stock BW open centre diff?

that we are starting with a BW open centre diff... PCD on the skyline/pintara is completely different to standard escort capri cortina 4 x 108 yeah?

because escorts are typically set up bias to the front?
and i think i am happy to accept it will cost too much...

It will depend on the size of the calipers you use on the back...you can typically have 2 outcomes
rears dont work at all as there is not enough pressure to get the pistons to work or the opposite and you have too much pressure to the rears and they lock up I know someone that did convertions professionally, he used peugeot calipers as the piston size worked very well with the standard master cyclinder bias can be achieved by proportioning valves as well not just pedal boxes |

Are you going to change the front brakes also? If so why not look at going to 5-stud wheels - you have a choice of Skyline/Falcon or Commodore stud pattern with the BW diff, then you could start with a disc braked axle. If keeping the stock Escort discs, I'd expect Pintara drums would be perfectly happy as an interim step then swap to a Skyline housing etc later on.

needed for diff conversion.
set 4.11 pintara crown wheel & pinion gears.(can source if you need) R31 LSD with brakes. Take to diff specialist and get him to do the measurements for length of housing and shocker mounts location,are you using the top trailer arms? Standard axles will need shortening and would not go more than 25mm each side or you will weaken the design of the axle,if mores needed moser is your answer.Brake lines will need to be made up to new length. Depending on condition of LSD it may need a rebuild,can do when gears get set up. Shocker mounts off old diff relocated to skyline housing. Tailshaft modified or changed out. Now if the conversion gets expensive and you still want to persist,get new diff gears! Is the vehicle to have any strret duties? If not then stick with a openwheel skyline diff and turn it into a 4.11 minispool with the pintara gears.will be half the price and take more of a beating for longer.These diffs set up correct are bloody pearlers.If you are doing the R/R of the diff and set the brakes up you will save a few pennys. I have been watching your build thread for ages... Is there any particular reason you have decided to look at this conversion over say Hilux or modifying the std escort rear end? If you just want to have a disc brake rear end I can chase down all the part numbers and the bolt on bracket which maintained the standard escort mastercylinder setup I'm not sure if you are a member on this site as well, but there are some great reading on diff conversions / brake setups / locked centres etc http://classicford.mine.nu/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=33 |

i was just thinking of this for maybe a future project... and i dont think ive updated the build thread for quiet a while... so its all good. and i am a member i just didnt realise there was stuff on there about disk brake rears
