Hi All
I Have A Gt.6. 1972 Mod And Its A Four Speed Manual .i Was Thinking Of Putting A 5 Speed In It .i Heard It Will Love It More Then The 4 Speed Exspe On The Highway Is That True .. Some One Told Me To Put A Toyota 5 Speed In It They Are Stronger Boxes That Come Out Of Supras Does Anyone Know Were To Get New Bell Housing For This Box And To Fit On My Motor . Do You All Think I Am Doing The Right Thing Or Wasting Time .. Cheers All |

Dellow Automotive does a conversion kit - Supra Box + custom made bell housing for the Essex V6 , plus other bits also in kit

Done this swap about 20 years ago with a mates v6 gt capri and it made a heap of difference in every aspect of driving it from the h'way to around town and it ran 15.1 down the 1/4 full street trim which i thought was pretty quick for what they are.

May aswell do the V8 conversion while your at it.
Just buy a xr8 with a 302 and 5spd and chuck it all in! |

People are inclined to make radical changes when in reality all thats required is a little fine tuning.
Assuming that the 4 speed works well all I would do is change the diff ratio to 3.09 (standard is 3.22) as per the later models. This will give the longer legs that you want as well as better first and second overall ratios. There is no butchering of the original car and cost of crownwheel and pinion should be in the region of $500. Apart from this do what clevocapri says only to a four cylinder one. |
