Default ford escort mkII

hey guys, just new to the ford forums
i am a proud owner af a mkII 2 door ford escort
have had it for maybe 2 years now without doing anything with it
have decided to finally do some work to it and drive it in the local hill climb
had a bummer of a problem, started the engine up and by the sounds of it we have either done a bearing in the motor or the crankshaft.
just asking if anyone possibly has any info on a 1.6lt or 2.0lt engine
would love the help .

thanks ben.

welcome to the forums. what kind of info are you chasing? hillclimbing is great fun but you will need to make sure the car is up to scratch. not sure what requirements exist, but things like fire extinguisher are usually required, possibly along with catch tanks, a tailshaft strap, long wheel studs, double springs on teh carb, wirelocking...as well as making sure the car is generally in good nick.

Ben

which hill climb are you thinking about? you are lucky down there - you have both tarmac & dirt if you include Mafra?

i'm getting the car ready for the maffra hill climb, a dirt track i believe
and just anyone that has a 1.6 engine that doesnt want it anymore, trying to enter in the non modified group, so the engine has to be what the cars came with.
thanks again guys
ben.

great track that - you will have a blast! I have raced down there many, many times, had some great runs against John Seymourin his MK1 escort
You could run it with a stock 2ltr pinto and still be in the non modified class as they did come out with them
are you a member of MADCC? I'm sure the guys down there would be able to help you out as well

You can find the stock pinto 2L for about $100! Though i'm guessing you probably don't want to have to rebuild one? Well they are 30yr old engines so it's gonna be best to do it before you break something.

I take it you don't have a restoration manual/gregories manual or anything like that?

This website is great for manuals, history books, performance tuning books etc etc.

I just got the restoration book for about $45 inc post because it had a mark on it, atleast they call out and let you know and offer a discout (last one though i think :P)

hope you're in no real rush though.
i got another week or so to go of work, then hopefully after that, i can start on my own engine build.
i got 3 blocks and 3 heads. i already got pistons, so just need to measure bores to find which block i can bore to suit.

quick update guys
just bought my second 2 door mk 2 on saturday
has a 1.6 lt with a 2nd worked 1.6 with a fried piston :'( slight damage to 4th cylinder.
it has ha the interior stripped, battery relocated to boot, sparco racing seat, came with loads of odd maggs like 3 of one set 2 of another etc.., radiotor looks to be mounted differently to me (but what would i know), throttle linkage looks way wrong (yet again what do i know), fuel line goes through the inside of the car so thats gotta be wrong, has round light conversion but its missing ligths haha, the points are completely ************ so i need new ones, basically it has been set up for auto cross but never got there, oh and as i recall the guy saying, it originally was a 2 lt and he had to change heaps around in the engine bay.
has some decent rut, in the heater bubble, covered up buy a piece of alloy pop riveted onto it, wasn't happy about that. :togo: ., near the rear windscreen on the RHS and LHS, small amount of rust damage on RHS rear wheel arch but the price i payed was well worth it in all. (i hope)
i will start a post on the work ill be doing to the car, asking for advice and help along the way.
thanks guys
Ben.
