Hi
I'm in the planning stage of restoring my escort. It's got a blown head gasket, and a tiny bit of surface rust. It's been sitting in a paddock for a few years, but other than that, it's very straight. So i'm going to expect some problems. Could someone help me? I want to go from 1.3, to a 2L. Don't need extreme amounts of power but would like a reliable car that goes well. Could someone shed some light on the the costs involved with these things and things to look out for? and possibly exactly what I would need to buy? Thanks, Levi. |

A good & easy conversion is a 2ltr EFI Pinto motor & 5-speed box. Simple to fit & very reliable. There's a few mobs around who import them from the UK. They're from a UK model Granada.

even going to a simple carby 2 ltr is very simple in an Escort, the EFI & 5 speed would be one of the best options
the best things is if you are going to go for a 2ltr everything will be off the shelf, easily obtainable & cheap if you keep it simple you shouldnt have many problems |

Your best method would be to get hold of a 2 ltr donor vehicle ie; a rust bucket that way you can swap all the parts you need such as struts, brakes, rear axle, engine & gearbox etc.
