Has anyone installed a instrument cluster out of a TS50 or TE50 not sure which model the instrument cluster is out of but it has a build date sticker on it with the year 2000 stuck on the back of the cluster. The instrument cluster has aluminium dials and lights up daylight blue. I have tryed to install it into my 2002 model AU3 220kw XR8, the problem is that when i plug the cluster into my XR8 the volume on the stereo climbs to full volume . I am thinking that the wiring from the cluster wiring loom is positioned on different pins on the cluster wiring plugs. the plugs have some spare pins with no wiring connected to them .

series 1 wont work in series 2/3 , i have a silver t series 3 cluster in my s3 forte,
had to get it re-wired to work in my forte only because it was a high series cluster into a low series, if you get the same series cluster EG - S3 TS50 INTO S3 XR8 , NO PROBS. cluster swap
Here you go and down further there is the wiring changes detailed for mid series to Forte. Upgrading and swapping Instrument Clusters With exception to the Low Series Instrument cluster, it is possible to change between different Cluster models rather painlessly. All AU Series 1 Instrument Clusters use the same Electrical Connectors, (2 Connectors), but for the Low Series Cluster, some wires need to be moved around for the Left Hand Side Connector, In order for the Mid/High Series Cluster to function correctly. The Mid, Police and High Series Clusters all use the same connectors, same Bulb holders, same needles, and Depending on the Cluster Series, very similar/Same circuit boards. The AU Series I Mid and High Series Clusters use a different LCD Panel, but the wiring (With Exception to the extra Door Outline Wiring) is 100% Compatible. That is, if swapping a Mid Series Cluster for a High Series Cluster, you will need to run new wiring from all 4 Doors, to the Instrument Cluster Wiring Harness Some important steps to watch out for when doing an Instrument Cluster conversion will include, 1. The Odometer Reading will need to be changed. (Remember your Pinkslip will have this reading on it from your previous years Registration - There is a $10,000 fine for Fraudulantly Winding Back your Odometer Reading.) 2. If Upgrading from a Base Instrument Cluster, The Oil Pressure Switch will need to be replaced with an Oil Pressure sensor. 4. If adding the Low Windscreen Washer Level Warning Lamp, a new Washer Bottle, with Level sensor, and an extra line will need to be added for the Warning to work. Some Common misconceptions with the Ford Falcon series Clusters include 1. The Odometer Readings can be swapped, changed or kept. The Odometer Reading is held within the Instrument Cluster, not within the EEC-V Engine Management, nor does the Instrument Cluster have a Backup Memory, or a Tamper-proof mechanism to deter Odometer Fraud ! 2. There is no Electrical, or Calibration Difference within the speedo sections of the cluster, in terms of different Factory fitted Diffs, wheel, and Tyre Ratios. Changing Clusters will not alter the Factory speedo readings. 3. It is not possible to use an XR Series II Face, on a Low or High Series Cluster ! This is due to the Maximum speed on the cluster face, which means that the speed increments are slightly compressed. The XR Series Cluster circuit board takes this compression in consideration when moving the speedo needle, and as such, you would need to swap the complete cluster over to use the XR Face. Wiring changes required when fitting a Mid/High Series Cluster to a Forte/Futura Model Falcon. Although the Mid and High Series Clusters will simply plug in, and A L M O S T function, there a re a few changes you will need to make, in order to get the Cluster to function correctly. These changes are needed in order for the following to function, Dial Illumination with Park Lamps On The ABS Warning Lamp to Illuminate correctly The Right Hand Side Indicator Lamp to function Correctly The following wires need to be moved around, in order for the Mid/High Cluster to function correctly, 1. The Park Lamp Dial (+ Positive) Illumination needs to be moved from Pin 13 to Pin 2. 2. The Dial Negative Dimmer Illumination needs to be moved from Pin 21 to Pin 3. 3. The ABS Warning Lamp Wire needs to be moved from Pin 8 to Pin 23 4. The R.H. Side Indicator wire needs to be moved from Pin 19 to Pin 26 Please Note : In addition to these changes, you will need to also change the Oil Warning Switch, to an Oil Pressure sender unit, and also swap the Odo Reading. (See Below for further details on how to do this)

sleeper - so the same wire changes are required between low to mid spec cluster (Futura to XR spec, for example) in series 2 as they are in series 1? I understand there's no need to change oil pressure thingos in the series 2/3 because they are all "idiot" lights (ie switch not sender - is that correct?

I plugged the XR cluster into the SR on Saturday night, as a test, with no wiring changes as yet, and the oil pressure gauge worked fine. I of course had no sender installed, just the standard switch. GK

Oddometer Reading.
The oddo reading is stored in an EPROM within the cluster, that much I think we all know by now. I have swapped over my high series cluster, in the fairmoint wagon with a TS50 cluster, whick looks good Without going to the trouble and difficulty of swapping over EPROMS if that is possible even, is there a legitimate way to have the new cluster oddo match the old one with "external" ? reprogramming ? If a Stat dec or something was supplied, will Ford do it for you ? or is it VDO ? how do you go about finding the correct contact at VDO? or can some third party do ti for me at a cost which I am prepared to pay for ? Thanks Ray

My local Fraud dealer told me they could reset any ODO but they needed to have the original taken to them in the car so they could "suck it out". They said the new cluster then had to be fitted to the car (presumably by them at the same time) and the ODO reading could be set to that which they "sucked out" of the original. Now, I don't believe a lot of the BS this dealer puts out; but it did sound like they'd done it that way before and maybe it is the way to do it.

Got hold of a t series cluster fascia the other day and installed it into my series II fairmont ghia dash. Looks amazing, both in the daylight and at night with the blue backlighting and red needles. I've been driving around in the evening just to look at the dash lit up (yeah I spose I could just sit in the driveway with the lights turned on). I just need to get the speedo recalibrated to the new 240km/h fascia. I went into gauge works in Geelong the other day to get a quote to do this, and the bloke said it couldn't be done. I contacted Howard instruments in melb and was told that they could recalibrate it for $198 if the dash was already out of the car or $276 if the dash was still In the car. A bit of money I suppose but worth it for the new look cluster.
