Default URGENT hazard lights on all the time

Hey guys i degreased, and hosed off my engine bay, and did have the radio in the car going, and the hazard lights started going off, so turned the ignotion off and finished hosing it off.

Turned it on to move it and it had a bit of trouble staring, but nothing major, then every time i revved it, no matter how big or small the hazards flashed once. So then i moved it, and disconnected the battery and continued cleaning it, connected the battery again, maybe 15 mins later? Hazards are flashing, started it, took ages for the fuel pump to prime but then started alright, took it up the street and back and it ran alright but hazards were flashing, and cant turn them off.

When the cars just sitting they flash for a while, then stop for a while, then flash for a while etc. For now ive put it in the garage and locked it which seems to have stopped the hazards.


Car is a 2002 AU3 XR6 HP (5 speed, if that makes any difference), with what looks like a factory optioned alarm (box next to brake booster with Form logo, and its also got a factory looking bonnet open/close sensor thing)
Also the ticking inside the car from the hazards doesn't sound like the normal indicator ticking.

Any help would be much appreciated, ive got no job at the moment and am desperately trying to get it to All Ford Day this weekend. :(

Firstly, even if it turns out to be unrelated - let this be a lesson to have EVERYTHING switched off when cleaning your engine bay, especially if you're chucking degreaser in there and hosing it off! Water and electricity don't mix!

Start with the basics - Have you checked the fuses & relays?
Perhaps disconnecting the battery has reset something to do with the alarm?

Take the cover off the engine bay relay box and go for a drive. There is moisture in there makingh a circuit that the eecu doesn't like. Once the moisture is gone it will stop. Pull relays and spray with conact cleaner in the next few days to stop terminals corroding, and problem occuring again on high humidity days.

Good advice here, makes sense - is the engine totally dried out yet?? If you have an air blower at home, you could also try using this to get any water out of anywhere where it shouldn't be...

Did you cover anything before your degreased the engine?

This.
In my TE50 it was serviced and they cleaned the engine bay, i drove off and it did the same thing but it stopped once the water dried up

Nah didnt cover anything up really, left the battery disconnected all night and its still doing it. also theres ticking coming from that factory alarm thing.

Sorry for the noob question, but the engine bay relay box is the one next to the battery/ABS with the big fuses in it?

This is what it was doing last night when i started it if it helps. When i got back to the speedo it had stopped.

Well i didnt take it for a drive, but i took the relay cover off this morning and left the bonnet open and in the garage, and i just got home from work and started it and it was fine, so that means its just dryed out now?

Yes but you might find the relay fails later due to corrosion unless you do you your relays with something like CRC or wd40

It wouldn't hurt to dissconnect the battery first. I guess the rule of thumb with electronics is, if possible to make sure there's no power supply. Doesn't seem neccesary but, it wouldn't hurt.
